1911 or AR

Well, gosh ... good for you! Too bad the rest of us working stiffs can't get back at the evil federal government the way you do!

In response to the OP, I'd say get the AR. The EBR may turn out to be a more endangered species than the 1911, which I suspect we'll all still be able to buy in another 100 years, not so the AR.

I'm an hourly worker just like you probably are, or were.

a guy who has Col. Cooper for an avatar ought to have a 1911 45ACP
This. Though since anti-gun politicians are constantly pushing legislation that would ban many forms of the AR-15 but rarely push legislation that would ban a 1911, it makes more sense to get the AR-15 first.

If you get an AR be prepared to spend next years return on accessories :D. It's hard to decide but I like shooting my AR slightly more than my pistols. However, if I didn't have access to an outdoor range >100 yards I'd go 1911 all the way.

I have a DB-15 and so far it has been great. Picked it up on Black Friday for $560 and it hasn't hiccuped yet in 750 rounds. I had never heard of them but I wanted a cheap AR and it fit the bill. Hope yours shoots great.

I'm not seeing the full potential of an AR without some aiming device attached. Sure, one can shoot one nakid but that isn't cool. People at the range will think you're poor or stupid or both. More bucks for aiming device.

I think the fun factor with a rifle and pistol is about the same. I see an AR mostly as a defensive carbine. I have a defensive carbine but it isn't an AR. Rifles can be so much more than a carbine. I think there is a trend toward medium and long range shooting. Most AR's fall short if you want to get serious about extended ranges.

I own a bunch of 1911's and shoot them every few weeks. I don't shoot my carbine that much, maybe 2-3 times a year.

I didn't read the post where you already got a db15. Good luck. Let us know how it does.

Well since this thread got brought back up I'll update it. I've since shot it twice and put 160rds through it. Had one failure to feed with Tula in a particular mag the first day I shot it and have not shot any cheap ammo using that mag any more. With either of the other two mags it eats Tula or anything else just fine. Other than that no problems. So far I'm really happy with the gun.

I think I'm done accessorizing for now, the only thing I still want/need to get is a sling. Haven't decided on one yet.

How she looks now...

Best plate at 50yds the first day I shot her...

And just to calm the 1911 guys, this will be my very next purchase and my first 1911. I've pretty much already made my mind up about it but feel free to try and talk me out of it. It probably won't work though. :)

It's been on sale for at least a month so I'm hoping it stays that way for another month or so while I get some finances together.

If you don't already have a modern military grade rifle get the AR. Colt.
If you take it easy on all the hobby accessories for the rifle you could think about a reasonable 1911, say a RIA Government Model.

6 MOA with your "best" plate????

If I was limited to one gun, it would be an AR-15. A 1911 would be second. (In actual fact, in my case the sequence was reversed. I bought my first 1911 about a year before I bought my first AR-15. This was in 1967-68.)

I suppose the follow-on question will be "Ginger or Maryanne". C'mon, man. While each has a purpose, I have to offer the same response I'd offer on the "Ginger or Maryanne" question.....Why not BOTH???

Maryanne probably wouldn't go for it ... but then you never know about that "girl next door" ...

The 1911 situation is a bit more complicated. I don't need another carry gun but I'd like the option all the same. So I'm torn between looking at fullsize or compact version of the 1911. I'm particularly interested in responses regarding various $4-500 1911's and those that are closer to my $800 limit.
Get an M1911 in a caliber you don't have. I don't have a .38 Super and that's likely my next M1911 purchase, probably a Rock Island. 10mm would also be an option.
