Omega's are out of production and I think the OP is looking for a new piece.

The Razorback second from right. Love the Pearce finger groove inserts and the fact they didn't billboard it up. I also like the clean look of no front serations. I didn't know how I would like the factory fixed sights but they have been just fine so I left them. It's the only fixed sight firearm I have left so... says something.

There are several SAO Witness models in 10mm.

Yup. Match, Stock, Hunter and Limited. Love my Limited 10.

As for the Razorback 10mm, I had a chance to buy one before DW got all pretentious and doubled their prices. $749 was the sticker in 2004, and between it and the Kimber ST II on sale for $869, the Kimber was the obvious choice for me.

I picked up the Razorback for $1100 but got lucky. I see them selling for more which is the sellers ripping people.

In the 1911 the Kimber is hard to beat for the funds.

I have so thought about a Limited! Anyone know the DA/SA trigger pulls on the Witness guns? My 1006 sucks pretty bad in DA and always wondered what a Witness had. Anyone have one and can measure?

Kimber was an obvious choice over a DW Razorback 10mm? Wow!

Here is my 10mm Razorback I picked up for $900. I personally wouldn't trade it for TWO Kimbers. :)

You may would want to build a Caspian. I've had mine since the mid '80's and it's not given me a problem at all. I love it.

The primary purpose of the large spring in the front of the slide is to return the slide to battery reliably after each shot. It is miss-named the "recoil spring" but in reality is the "slide return spring".

It has to be able to strip a cartridge from the magazine and close the slide, it need not be any stronger than that.
It does not control the recoil impulse as most believe.

Correct!

A better way to delay the unlocking a bit is you use an EGW "flat" firing pin retainer in your 1911-style 10mm and then radius the edge to decrease the force/delay required to unlock the slide from the barrel. This changes the mechanical advantage of the slide and hammer spring.

I've got no complaints about my 10mm Witness Match. Everything I can see on mine is top quality built. Only thing I did to it was a little spring work to make sure it can handle the full bore 10mm loads, and breaks just a shy under 3lbs and it's feels great. And it's nice to be able to walk to the range and dump 15rds when you need a little stress relief :)

One day I'm hoping I can do a 10mm Caspian build

What he said.... First thing I did with my two Razorbacks. I didn't bevel the bottom. It changes the leverage on the hammer, and it slows the slide significantly. Makes a big difference.

No, you don't put any radius on the lower edge of the firing pin retainer/stop. All you want to do is take off the sharp edge where it contacts the hammer so it won't gouge the hammer. Use a very smooth stone to just polish a tiny radius and remove any [sharp] edge.
You want the mechanical leverage advantage to be as close to the hammer pivot pin as possible.
Then you want a Wolff #26225, 25 lb. hammer spring installed to make it harder to move the hammer.
I removed my stock 10mm Delta Elite dual slide return spring and installed a Wolff 42118 18.5 lb. slide spring along with a stock G.I. .45 auto spring guide, you don't need no fancy guide. And that's it.

A lot of nice 10mm porn here! I dont have to have something new fyi (which is why i listed the Delta, etc...) I know that 10x6 smiths arent true 1911s but they are closer to a 1911 than a Glock, so I used it as a catch all. I though about a Witness but Ive heard a lot of horror stories about them. I wouldnt mind a Glock 20 except that I already have a 19 and my buddy already has a 20. His point of contention was that with the steel guns the heavier springs are just going to wear the gun out faster and replacing parts is going to be harder/more expensive than with a Glock, plus the Glock is cheaper than most of the other options. Those with non Glock patterns, how much maintenance/ how many rounds do you have through them. It is not uncommon for me to put 100-200 rounds a session through my pistols. Just dont want to have to constantly spend money on it outside of ammo because it is fitting physics in a package it cant handle well.

Yea lots of I heard from people that don't own them. My Match still looks new after years of Nukes. Stuff others wouldn't shoot! You will wear your bank account in ammo out before the pistol.

Depends on the gun but the witness for example should be just as easy and fast as a glock to replace most the springs. As far as wearing the gun out faster that depends on if it's setup incorrectly or not for the loads your running but I would go as far to say that any well setup hammer fired auto will outlast any striker fired auto due to the ability to slow the slide with the hammer spring and not just the recoil spring.

Ya it can be depending on which parts need replacing. But I don't see you needing to replace much more than springs unless you feel the need to upgrade something tho someone with a couple 10mm might be able to give you a better idea on maintenance.

In mine you can do just springs (if we are talking 1911's). Would be a benefit to slap a flat bottom ($25) plus maybe an extra strong hammer spring. Other than that I don't think they need anything.

I waited a long time to jump into the 10mm pool - then went for the deep end.

But I sure would like one of those Smiths.

If you really want the strongest 10mm auto, and don't mind used, you could try to find a Star Megastar.
It's not a lightweight, though. It's about 3 pounds/48 ounces/1.4 kilograms.

If I EVER find another good deal on one, I'm getting it. Regardless of whether it's .45 or 10.

I got my SA OMEGA used (but unfired) a few years back. Good thing it was unfired, because otherwise I think the previous owner would have kept it..

I see them on GB fairly often, just look for a less used one.

Beautiful gun to shoot, and look at! :)

That Omega is a hell of a chunk -o- gun. Those are certaiinly the best photos I've seen posted of it and you got me thinkin' to look harder into one. Does that have double extractors?

Thank you, and yes this model has dual extractors... It's a looker and a shooter.. This was towards the end of production and all the bugs worked out.

Here's the extractors...
