OK, not sure what made me think of this, but I can't be the only one to have ever thought about this:
A spent .45ACP case is just about a perfect replacement for the recoil spring plug on a 1911. I haven't fired it like this, but I did cycle some snap-caps though the pistol and it seemed to stay tight and didn't go flying.
So, how late to the party am I on this one?
And has anyone else tried this field expedient repair? Does it or would it actually work if the pistol were fired, or would it go flying downrange?
