1911 Recoil spring ?

I loaded a bunch of 200gr lrn with 5.4(min) of sr4756. Tried them in both my XD .45 and champion operator. Both guns fired the roounds safely however they were too lite to cycle the slide. Now for the 1911 I ordered recoil springs in 9, 10 and 15lbs. Should it now cycle ok? What is the lightest handload you have used with reduced power springs?

Shock buffs.

Hey there;
Been there done that. You can get away with alighter spring. But do not forget it and start shooting heavier loads.
That will hammer that slide pretty hard.
The use of shock buffers would also help just incase.
I use them in all my 1911s.

I learned a long time ago not to use light springs. But if you want to shoot only light target loads you will likely be OK.

Start with a standard spring. If it won't cycle, lighten the spring by one or two lbs until it will. That should keep you out of trouble. As noted above, don't fire full-power loads with a light spring. I wouldn't even consider using a shok-buff in any weapon I would be using to defend myself with so if you decide to use one for powderpuff loads, I'd recommend pulling it out if you ever decide to make this a carry of defensive weapon.
