I have an older Springfield fullsize with a plain novak rear sight and a staked on front sight. I want a replace the frontsight with something in tritium. What are my options?
I was going to ask the same question. I have had my SA 1911A1 9mm for a month now and have started carrying it. My Glock 17 has night sights, and I have become attached to them. Thus, I want them on my 1911A1.
I often carry both guns plus my Raven P-25. The 1911A1 just looks less PC than the Glock.
Gonna have to get the slide dovetailed in the front. Smiths don't whacking on tritium fronts. Somethin about splittin atoms don't set well with'm.
Tritium's a nuclear material, and front sight staking requires a lot of pounding with a hammer. I suggest getting dovetailed for a Kimber front sight. Somethin about the Kimber cut makes it more widely available.
MMC Sights has a variety of sight options.
The rather large and easy to aquire XS Sight Systems a.k.a. AO Sights
The well known Heinie Trijicon is certainly well known.
Even Novak Sights has tritium.
If you don't want to buy direct, you can do a search under any name and find a retailer.
Better yet, send the whole gun to Novak's and ship a box of carry ammo seperately. They'll site it in for you per your specs and you'll get your gun back ready to go.
Call them. They are very helpful and can answer all your questions.
