I like small ones single sided. What do you like?

The market place has mostly Ambi and BIG safeties standard.

Tell us what brand, style, etc. of safeties out there that you prefer.

Show us pics of your favorite.

The 3" CDP has a Wilson safety I modified and installed.
The 4" CDP has an STI safety I modified and installed.
I like the Wilson one best. Thats why it's on the carry gun.

Depends on the application of the gun. On my gov't models, I like ambi, on my commanders (which are intended for carry) I like single sided safeties :D

I like one wide enough to use as a thumbrest, single side only. Ambi ones irritate my hand with how high I grip the gun, plus I feel the single side ones tend to be less prone to breakage.

I had a Brown ambi safety installed on my GSR Revolution. I shoot left-handed because of left-eye dominance. It works.

For me, it depends on the intended application of the pistol. Range 1911s usually get a Wilson ambi, and carry pistols usually get a Colt or modified Kings single-sided safety lock.

That being said I do have one Colt set up as a carry pistol with a buried Bomar rear sight and a Wilson ambi. It carries as well as the pistols with a single-sided safety lock.

For playing IPSC or IDPA go ambi or if you are left handed. Otherwise I prefer the single side safety in any iteration.

Take Care

I shoot the guns with both hands, so I prefer ambi safeties. SV makes the best safeties whether single side or ambi. They are milled from bar stock and not cast like 99% of the other safeties you can buy.

I like ambi safeties for the sole reason that I can check that my satety is still engaged when I carry. Prior to a ambi safety I used a standard single thumb safety but on too many occasion I noticed that the thumb safety has been switched off. I like the ambi because I can check that the safety is on in the holster.

No preference between ambi/sigle side safeties. An ambi would be nice, but since I fire pistols from the correct side (unlike longarms), I can live without it.

I like them to be extended (I shoot high thumb), but dont want them to be the size of a gas pedal. The Kimber safety works well for me, which works out since I have four Kimbers.

Seemed to me that an ambi was more prone to being swept off in the holster than a single-sided safety. :uhoh:

I like the small (standard sized) ambi safety, the one with the extended and "notched" sear pin to hold the right side lever in place. I've called it "Colt style" as the first one I ordered years ago was from a "Colt 1911" parts list. As oposed to the Wilson style which has a tab that slips under the right side grip to retain it and needs the grip relieved so it can pivot.

Most of my 1911s have ambi safeties, I practice left handed a fair amount so its almost a requirement.

A few came with extended safeties, while I don't dislike them enough to spend $30-50 to replace them, I sure wouldn't get them if I've a choice.

EDIT: Those J-Point red dot sights rock!

I prefer the small single side safeties, though they are getting hard to find it seems. Everywhere I look for one, all I find are the larger extended safeties. Anyone know a resource for the GI style safeties?

I prefer the single sided Ed Brown tactical safety. It'sa bit more narrow than his standard one.

The GI safeties can be found on ebay.

i like the plain 'ole, single side gi safeties. im right handed anyway, but ive found that the safety is pretty easy to disengage w/ my left index finger (with a little practice) if needed. i hate the look of those big paddle safeties....ewww.
