Jerry Kuhnhausen's shop manual comes highly recommended over on the 1911 forum. I was wondering if anyone here on THR would know of any good shop manuals to own regarding the 1911. I'm looking at rebuilding a few old colts with my nephew and could really use the reference points. If I'm lucky someone here might even have an old one laying around they might want to part with for a little cash.

Thanks

If you look about, you will find that Jerry's manual is highly recommended on this forum too.

You can obtain a copy from the following sources:

www.brownells.com

www.gunbooks.com

www.amazon.com

In addition, go to our search feature and use the key words "Tuner" and "1911". You will find a ton of information you can drop to your printer

But buy a new ink cartridge first... :neener: :D

Hey, Fuff, they're cheaper than ink and paper, and Tuner's got alot of info he shares and I don't want to lose a bit of it. I just got into these 1911's about a year ago, so I do alot of research on their functions. I really appreciate guys like you and Tuner sharing your knowledge with a moron like me. It's invaluable. I've learned a bunch. Oh, Kuhnhausens book is invaluable too.

Thanks guys

Mike

Betcha if Tunner and Fuff wrote a book it would be a best seller.....shucks if ya put together all their writtens on this Forum probably would be more pages than Jerry's books.....I've spent more than a book cost already on ink and printer paper for their words of wisdom!

Tuner is particularly fond of Kuhnhausen's thrust vector discussion. :D

Oh Lord!

I've noticed that in later editions, that part has been...altered a bit. Guess somebody whispered in Jerry's ear and explained things to him.:p

Although I refer to Volume 2 often for the dimensions and tolerances, Volume 1 is a little fuzzy. Kuhnhausen is doubtless a fine pistolsmith...but a writer he ain't. You'll have to read some sections over and over and over to get a clear handle on what he's tryin' to convey. Other parts are as clear as a bell.
Both books are well worth the cost to students of the 1911 pistol.

Jim, its a bunch easier to print Tuner's posts than to cataloge and index them.:banghead:

salty.
