1911 Slide closing on empty chamber

Why abuse the pistol just because ya can?

I don't and wouldn't. Even if everyone here said it's OK to let it slam home, I wouldn't. but before I would say anything to a friend of mine about, "hey, that's not a good idea" it's nice to know the mechanics behind it. I'd not stick my nose in a strangers business either. So if they are at the range, short of personal safety issues I let them alone. BUT if they were to ask..

The same goes for using +P rounds and others. If I really thought I needed MORE power, I'd be shopping for a 10mm with a frame beefed up for 10mm. Or carry a 44 Mag wheel gun.

That was a generic question, asked to the general population...not directed at you, personally. Glad that you don't, by the way.

The frame isn't an issue. The 1911-pattern frames are the same, regardless of caliber. The slide is where all the stress is, and yes...the 10mm is a bit much for the 1911 design.

I follow the "ease it empty, slam it loaded" rule with any semi-auto pistol, be it mine or someone else's, but I have better things to do than sit around slamming my slide home dozens of times, which is how much it surely would take to damage anything. ;)
Is not an occasional "slide slam" a legitimate function test for hammer follow? I would rather have a 5 lb. trigger that won't jar loose than a 3 lb. that does.
