What is it about those 1911s that makes them so magical?

I love the 'push' of the recoil (versus the 'snap' of some other guns), the weight of the steel, the slimness of the grips, the history...

...anyone else out favor the 1911 to other designs?

I must like 'em okay, because I have four of the dang things. :D

Probably my favorite semiauto design, except on Tuesdays, when I prefer the P7. ;)

A well fitted 1911 with a sweet trigger

Is without a doubt one of the best feeling pistols to fire out there.
Those who knock them don't shoot them, or they don't have them fitting their hand, IE arched housing, or long trigger, less the best trigger pull, low grip safety, etc..
I know when I bought my High Power I thought the 5" felt to top heavy,Then I got to fire one on the range and with a full Magazine the balance was perfect, and like the High Power it felt like it belonged in my hand:)

I'm up to six. A Springfield milspec fully customized, 3 Kimbers (old Clackamas Custom, steel compact, ultra carry), and 2 Colts (series 70 Gov't, and Gold Cup).

I am absolutely addicted. I've bought and sold berettas and Hi-powers in 9mm and .40 cal. Tried many others. I don't like the feel, weight, balance, triggers, on any of them.

I do love the boom and push of the 1911s recoil, and hate the feel of those snappy little pistols. And NOTHING compares to a good trigger on a 1911.

Love 'em!

For a long time, I was one of those who knocked 1911s. . .Three months ago I picked up a Caspian at a VERY resonable price. . .I now have 4 1911s.

Kicking myself for waiting so long to get one. . .

Yep...just a great combination of "feel" and performance.

Six?

Hmmm...three single stack .45ACP 1911's (WWII-issue GI -A1, Wilson CQB, Colt Custom), three custom Para P14's, two STI raceguns, two STI .40's, and one STI Commander box-of-parts work in progress. 10 and a box of parts...and counting...

Hate to be a snob but I do prefer the 1911A1s. Also am quite fond of Browning Hi Powers and CZ75 design pistols.

Why is it that the vast majority of the best shooters in the world prefer the 1911A1 over Glocks, SIGs and Berettas? Just can't figure it out? :p

Mmmmuuuummmm....45's.....Droooooooool....<bzzzzzzt> <crackle>

You owe me a keyboard, Cratz2.

- Gabe :D

For me it's the history combined with how easy they are to shoot well. Plus, reliability, rugged design, great stopping power from the .45 ACP and there isn't much out there that can compete. The only other design that can be compared is the Hi-Power.

I've been hooked on 'em since I was a little kid. It has all led to this:

This is a photo of my USGI 1911 display at a recent gun show.

Oh sure... I feel like the big man until Dana shows up with his hundred bagillion quadrillion dollars of GI guns...

Just kidding... you know I'm jealous.

It is funny to see '3 posts' under your name though. Compared to that other forum...

Cratz2: I give up. Is that an arsenal, an accumulation, or a collection?

I've got several Colts in various flavors from 9mm to 45 ACP. Love the thangs. :)

DSK: Nice display!

Cratz really knows how to accessorize a coffee table!

Badger45: Did you move to PA from Wisconsin? I think I sold you the Kimber Compact.

1911s is tasty.

I was always afraid to shoot a .45 when I was young. My dad said his dad had a friend who had one and said the recoil would knock you into Nevada and you cant hit a warshin machine at 20 paces with one

Now, its 1911s and revolvers.

While I don't carry a 1911 or use one for home defense, they are ABSOLUTELY my favorite gun. I now have 5 Colts in my safe and I know I'll be getting more. Even though I've had my fun with owning SVI, STI, Kimber, SA and a couple of other brands, I am hopelessly obsessed with Colts and am already planning on breaking my New Year's resolution this weekend by purchasing a .38 super Colt (had 3 of them and during some sort of mental dilerium sold them all). Unfortunately my affection for Colts happen to be for those models that are not currently being made which usually means it's gonna cost me!!!

Hey...will only take me 3 days to break my NY resolution which is longer than I lasted last year.... :p

I hate the rock the boat, so I won't. God, I love those 1911s. Hate to brag, but I've got Ted Yost working on one right now and I think I smell a full-house custom in my near future.

I'd ask if there's any medication for this addiction, but I don't want one. Finest combat sidearm every designed and I can only hope to one day match Cratz2.
