1911s suck (not my article)

but for right now I think people are too focused on "1911 is better!"

Maybe I'm not reading the same thread, but I don't see a bunch of people here trying to tell everyone that the 1911 is better than anything else. I do see a lot of people trying to prove that they are worthless pieces of junk, and a few people here debunking a bunch of internet myths and trying to set the record straight.

I thought you replaced it cause it blew up...wait, that was your alter-ego...er 115FMJ whose J-Frame self-destructed. Sorry, totally different guy with at least 7 pistols in common with you Dusty. You wouldn't know him, he went silent 2 days before you registered.

Awfully suspicious, ain't it? It's also funny that he denies being a troll, but has yet to answer the accusation of being 115FMJ.

My comment was more re: the answers I got in the other thread, which simply said the 1911 is better, and not really why. What about it feels better, or what are the numbers to show that there is a significant difference.

You are right, in this thread it has been a lot more bashing the 1911. Although I don't consider what I'm saying about it to be "bashing"...simply I see the merits of the more modern options more than I see the merits of the 1911.

I like double stack nines and 15 plus rounds in my handguns. I miss a lot when I running and I get double the chance to hit something with more bullets. That is just common sense.
Then you really shouldn't be using any handgun for defensive purposes. You're responsible, and legally accountable, for every round you send down range. Please, go get some training before you hurt an innocent person with your spray and pray method of shooting a handgun.

On that note, since you, by your own admission, "miss a lot" when shooting handguns that tells us everything we need to know. The reality is that 1911s are great for people who can actually shoot accurately, but you don't like them because you suck at shooting handguns.

Also, what department do you work for? If a person who, again by his own admission, "miss a lot" when shooting handguns is employed as a sworn LEO I want to stay the heck out of that jurisdiction. If what you've said is true then your department's training is woefully inadequate at best, if not criminally negligent at worst, by allowing you, or anyone like you, to be armed in an official capacity.

If you really want to know the best thing is the head to your local gunshop or shooting range and try/rent what you are interested in. Looking at numbers and statistics is one thing, but you can't beat actually pulling the trigger for yourself.

Yes, but how do I know how they've set up the trigger? I could be pulling a stock trigger or a competition trigger for all I know, as opposed to one tuned for SD. That wouldn't give me a very good indication of what I would get if I were to get it set up for protection. That's why I've been asking the question.

It's not really that complicated. The difference between a competition trigger and a self defense trigger may be all of 1-2 pounds in pull weight. And it's pretty safe to say that unless you start getting into the $1500 and up guns, you won't be pulling any competition tuned triggers.

Is the pull weight the only difference on a 1911 competition and carry trigger?
