At the Florence gun show a couple weeks back I did some trading and ended up with a 1912 Chilean Mauser with a 1961 .308 "Nato" conversion. I haven't shot it yet but intend to on Tuesday.

This rifle was built by Steyr and even though the numbers don't all match the action is smooth as glass.

Thought I'd share some pics.

I love old 98 Mausers and have several. (You know, your wife can't tell when you get a 'new' one if they all look alike!) I have 2 of the Chilean M 12/61's like that. They are, indeed, some nicely crafted and slick firearms-AND in .308 to boot! You will really like that one! Good luck.

I have a rifle marked chileno mauser modelo 1895, made by Lowe of Berlin. It is in great shape and in 7x57 caliber. AQn absolute tact driver. Shoots better than I can shoot it! (thats not sayin much). Thought you might be interested.
