What's the consensus on these guns for a base pistol for a custom build?

Most of the buzz I hear is usually for (pre) series 70 Colts and Norincos, but it seems one of these older Sistemas would be just the ticket. Any of you custom 1911 types care to weigh in?

I am happy with mine:

Beavertail
Ambi Safety
New Hammer
New Trigger
Flat MSH
Rosewood double diamond grips
New Sights
Wilson Bulletproof extractor
Wilson 47D mags
etc.

It makes a very nice companion to my "Pre Series 80" Combat Commander with similar mods.

I built one into a tack driving carry gun. Read about it here and here. Oh yeah, I built up another Sistema for Cussin' Bob here.

The Sistema is an excellent base gun. Realize you will probably have to do a barrel and bushing swap to get the accuracy you want. All 1911 parts are a direct swap, and a Sistema is a Colt as far as I'm concerned. The frame and slide are hardened to 1927 Colt standards, not to Norinco standards. Realize where these limitations come into play, and build away.

I bought one back in 2001 and did a series of tweaks through King's Gunworks: new sights, expanded ejection port, beavertail grip safety, throating, new trigger, et al. Replaced the barrel (broken link) and bushing three years ago. It's become a very accurate and reliable pistol, and I use it at the range and for home defense (it has a Crimson Trace laser sight on it now too). I'm quite happy with mine.

As many said in the past Sistemas are excellent base gun. However, if your is full original I won't bubba. They become scarcy nowdays.

Other than "barrel throating & ramp polishing" + Wilson mags, under seven yds I like them the way they are....Another friend with a Sistema replaced all of the internals with Wilson parts, but not sure if it helped any judging by his "range results".

Mine's got all matching numbers on the frame, slide, barrel & mag. The finish is a rather pleasing plum/patina/blue with no pitting or freckling that I can see.

I'd guess that it was never re-arsenaled but I'm no expert. Should I just hang on to this one as a shooter/collector and find another one for a custom build?

One more question - the P.N.M. on the slide;

Is this an import mark or an Argentinian military branch/unit designation? Anyone know?
