I was just reading through a thread that made mention that the 1968 GCA was modeled after Nazi Gun Control Laws, most notably the use of the term "Sporting Arms" when deciding which gun to ban or keep. Cany anyone point me towards more information on this subject? Or is it just a gun myth? Thanks.

From what I've read here and on other forums, the gun control laws under Nazi Germany were written in the 1920's, before Hitler took power.

There may have been some changes made after 1933, but the bulk of the laws were already there.

And that's perhaps one of the better arguments against gun control. We do not have an evil dictator now (unless Hillary gets the win in 2008). Some would say that our fears are therefore irrational. But, should we get a tyrant, having laws in place disarming the public makes it pretty easy to start rounding them up.
