1973 Mauser Bauer Skeet O/U

Hi guys, I have a 1973 Mauser Bauer (620 I think), choked skeet O/U shotgun. I have been told that it was pricey for it's time. Could any of you guys who have access to gun prices of that time let me know how much it cost ?
The condition is excellent, case hardened,vent ribbed,and with good quality wood
Barrel has this writing "mauser-oberndorf-fraser mich."
"Made in Italy"

A guy said this on another forum "I have some early seventies Gun Digests. That Mauser was god awful expensive for it's day. About double the price of a Browning Citori at the time, or a Winchester 101"

If any of you guys could confirm the model, and the aprroximate price of the 1970's as the other guy ddint get back to me.

Thanks man, any idea what model, as ive looked at a 620 TRAP and it looks different. Mauser 71E looks similar with its case hardening but the foregrip looks different.

Im not sure if 620 is trap only, if it is then my gun is not a 620 !
 
I'm at the office and still don't keep any gun books here. Oh well.

Weren't these imported by Bauer Firearms Corporation in Fraser, Michigan 30 to 40 years ago. They're known for making a little .25 ACP copy of the Baby Browning.

A little googling on Mauser Bauer turned up everything from a $600 field gun to 2 at Cabela's - one for $4000 and one for $6k+.

I don't think I've ever seen an old Gamba catalog. I'd like to try and match models.

Could be

Might be Fili Gamba rather than Renato Gamba. I almost bought an Abercrombie and Fitch single barrel trap gun that was an F. Gamba. Probably all the same family maybe even company.
 
This I think is either a 610 or a 620, the 72E and 71E look different. The other mauser guns ive seen have mod. 71 or mod . 72 ,or mod 620, mine does not have either of those, but it looks identicle to some other guys 620 that he posted on the net.

If i can get a deffo mod id, then I can look it up !!!
 
Here are some pics of this Mauser 620 that another guy had, the forum he is on I cant get in contact with unless I pay, so I hope he wont mind me puttin pictures up on here.

There is also guy that posted on here a year ago that I have pmed , he claimed he had a M620 so hed be the best guy to talk to, just hope he replies "SwampWolf" I NEED YOU !!!!

Gun Digest 1974 (compiled in 1973) shows the Mauser-Bauer 620 at $895. Five dollars more than a Pigeon Grade Browning Superposed, same price as a Perazzi Comp I that year.
Not hardly, not in the same class.

A dealer here got a number of them and the single barrell trap gun when Bauer flopped and blew them out for about half price a few years after that.

When you say not in the same class, do you mean that the gun was overpriced compared to the browning and perazzi ?

also , can you tell me the exact copy of gun digest so that I can buy it please ?

Gun Digest 1974, they only put out one a year. I looked in that one because they come out early in the year, based on the previous year's prices and availability.

Yes, I meant exactly that the MB was overpriced versus Browning and Perazzi. You can still get a Browning or Perazzi, but where is Mauser-Bauer?
 
OK i see, why was this gun so highly priced, was it because it IS a good gun or do you think it is a crock of ****e with a hopefull manufacturer competing against browning and perazzi ! >?

I think that typically anything with a german interest marks up the price, even if it was just the mauser tag on an italian made gun ?

Today It's still tight, the case hardning and the wood is immaculate still. This is my first gun, and prolly be my only gun for a long time. I had a mauser rifle, so you can see what way this purchase has came around.

Here's a little background on Gamba that I found on shotgunworld.com -

"I own a F.illi Gamba (Gamba Brothers) single barrel trap gun that is incredibly overbuilt and vaguely resembles the old Ithaca 4E SBT. These guns were imported to the USA during the 60s-70s through a variety of importers including Abercrombie and Fitch, Stoeger, Universal, Mauser-Bauer, etc. My gun was purchased in Italy from Guido Gamba himself in 1987.

There were 2 Gamba companies: F.illi Gamba and Renato Gamba. The families are related, and Guido Gamba (of F.illi Gamba) sold out to Renato over 20 years ago. The current Renato Gamba Daytona model is a former F.illi Gamba design.

Rumor has it that Guido still has nearly 50 unsold guns in storage that are all 20-30 years old."

If John would post a picture of the bottom half of page 403, you would have it all right there, about two column inches. It is not like there is a feature article "All you will want to know about Mauser Bauer-Gamba in 35 years."
 
I think F.lli is an abreviation of Fratelli, meaning brothers. That would be my guess. You still see it with Italian companies today.

Probably a bit of both. The shotgun world enjoys the highest form of elitism possible. If a gun isn't expensive, it is automatically considered inferior by many. Make it expensive, do some clever marketing, package it nicely, and...

I almost bought an F.lli Gamba from the 70s, but eventually decided against it as I couldn't find any parts for it.

That is a nice looking gun though. How much is the guy asking?
 
Thanks, I purchased this gun for around 450GBP or 900US, im am having it multichoked so I can do more disaplines.

Showing my naievety here, I wanted an old gun preferbally Greman in good condition. Well I have sort of achieved that with this gun,The gun has been casted to fit me as I am left handed, and this probabally goin to be one of the few guns I will purchase,if not the only one.

If I saw that gun here for $900, I'd buy it.

German shotguns. I've been wanting a Krieghoff for sometime (actually since I started shooting).
 
Dirtbag: Your pm didn't go through for me. I'm not sure how much help I'll be for you but here goes: I purchased my Mauser 620 Trap (made by Renato Gamba/Italy), serial no. 53811, on 1-23-74, from Cleveland Sports Headquarters in Brecksville, Ohio for $369.95 (new). It had 30" barrels and was choked Imp Mod/ Full and was equipped with a detachable single/selective trigger. The gun was well made, had a case-hardened receiver and a gorgeous stock. A shot it in a trap league for a couple of years but experienced recurring problems with the gun failing to fire the second barrel. After having my gunsmith work on it for the second time (but without checking it for function), I regretfully sold it at a gunshow on 1-8-05 for $850.00.

I really liked the gun but I have short patience for malfunctions. If (a big two-letter word!) it works right, you'll love the gun. If it doesn't, well...

Your serial is similar to mine, what did (if you can remember!) it have on the side i.e mod.620 etc ?
