Finally got to the range with my .308. This is my first time shooting it or any bolt action rifle for that matter, so be nice when you look at the target pics :) . As expected the rifle shoots way better than I do, but you gotta start somewhere. I did get one decent 3 round group.

I mounted the scope using the "look through the barrel" method so I shot a few rounds at 50 yards first to make sure I was in the ball park. I guess I was a little surprised to see that I was in 4 inches of being on target. So off to the 100 yard bench. Below are some pics from my short but enjoyable first range trip with this baby! Oh yeah, ammo was Remington Express 150 grain CORE-LOKT psp and Federal POWER-SHOK 150 grain soft point. I was shooting off the bipod and sandbags under the stock.

Looking forward to my next trip!

A couple average groups at 100 yards. In the first one the hole in the upper right was from sighting in, not part of the group...honest.

Evidence that this rifle is capable of a lot more than the shooter at this point, or just plain ole luck.
Less than .5 MOA?

nice. Looks much better than my first trip to the range with my rifle. What kind of gun is that? a heavy barreled 700 of some sort?

The first two were the Federal and the third was the Remington. I had a other 3 shot groups with the Remington pretty much on par with the Federals so I can't really attribute the tight group to the ammo.

The rifle is a Winchester Model 70 Stealth, 26" heavy barrel. The older model not the new Controlled Round Push Feed model. Need to take some better pictures. I think it's a sweet rifle.

haha i guess that shows how well I can see the difference. How much did it cost you? I've read very good things about that gun. It's on my list of "someday when I get done with school and have enough money to buy" guns.

I bought the gun from Sporting Arms. I'd have to dig out the receipt but I think I paid $579 or $589 earliler this year. That's rifle only of course, scope, mounts etc... extra.

you said that's the older model, so it's a push feed? Was it used/do you know what year it was made? I don't mean to play 20 questions, but I thought they usually went for closer to MSRP.

No problem on the questitons.

Yes it's a Push Feed.
Yes it was new, not sure on year of manufacture, would guess 2003 though. Sporting Arms has them now for $619 and the newer Stealth II for $609 so I guess they have gone up some, but no where near MSRP. I couldn't find one locally. One place quoted me a similar price but couldn't say how long it would take so I went the online route.

Hope that helps.
