I finally got the chance to take my "new" Smith out to the range. For those who have been considering getting one of these "classic" 10mm`s I have just 2 words DO IT! :) This particular example wears Hogue rubber grips and is Mag-na-ported. Between that and it`s slightly muzzle heavy heft muzzle flip is less than half that of my Witness 10mm. Corbon`s hottest hunting loads feel like standard .40 fodder. My groups were pretty good considering I`m new to the gun. It was 100% reliable and very comfortable to shoot. The one downside was that someone had installed a 9mm/.40 rear sight which is about .100 shorter in height than the .45/10mm sight,so it shot a few inches low. A new 10mm Novak rear sight is on order from Brownells. :) Next steps,a Wolff 20# recoil spring and stocking up on some more HOT 10mm ammo. :D Marcus

Any Pics?? I had a 1076. Liked the reliability of it, despised the
deccker and bobbed hammer.

Would rather a standard safety SA/DA Smith 10mm.

Sounds great. Congrats on the 1006. :)

I've never seen a Magna-ported Smith 10mm, but the felt recoil's got to be pretty close to a down-loaded .40, or so I'd imagine.

For hot, high performance factory 10mm loads, check out the stuff from Texas Ammo and Double Tap.

FWIW, my 1006 really liked DT's 165 Golden Saber HPs @ 1425fps (which was actually more like 1450fps from the 1006's 5" tube). I don't know how many fps the ports on yours would give up, though. Probably not enough to matter.

Sorry I don`t have any hosted pics but the 1006 in this thread is (apart from the mag-na-ports on mine) exactly the same. http://www.pistolsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=17463&start=0
I can`t get over how little muzzle flip this thing has with 180gr./1350fps loads! It still has real 10mm recoil transfered to the palm and web of the shooting hand but the flip no more than my CZ-75 with 124gr.+Ps. *Accurate* RAPID fire with 700fpe loads is a COOL thing! :D I can`t wait to get the right rear sight on and put a few hundred more rounds through it to get friendly with it. DT ammo is most assuredly on my must get list! For now 150gr. Corbons will have to do. I`m told I should expect about a 1%-2% decrease in velocity with the porting, not a biggie IMO since most 10mm velocities are rated in a shorter 4.5" barrel anyway. Marcus

I shot my new (old) 1026 this weekend. Heavy gun but accurate. The reciol is not bad in the S&W.

Good for you.
I like the 10xx best in the Smith line.
Love my 1086.

This is a little off topic, but...

I tested some Georgia Arms 180 and 155 gr. 10 mm ammo. The 155 gr. which Geogia Arms lists as 1375 FPS expanded beautifully in some water filled milk jugs. It actually expanded to diameters larger than some .45 rounds and as large as the best .45 rounds I have tested.
