Hi everyone, I am a relatively new Texas resident and gun owner. I've been browsing these forums, reading and learning from everyone. It seems like a great community here!

Anyway, I wanted to make my first post a contribution... For the Houston-area residents I found Monarch brass FMJ in 9mm and .45ACP at the Academy on I-10 between 610 and BW8 east of downtown this afternoon. The 9mm was selling for $11/50 and the .45ACP was selling for $18/50, no limit on the number you could buy. They had quite a lot of the 9mm, and a good amount of the .45. They also had 9mm Luger in Winchester white box, Blazer .40, and several other assorted pistol and rifle sizes.

Hope this is of some help to a few people.

Welcome to The High Road!

Thanks for the "heads up" on your very first post. I don't need any pistol ammo, but I'm sure someone who reads this can use some.

Where do you shoot at?

I was out at ASC on westheimer this morning and it was really packed with folks I did not recognize. Not of new folks shooting this weekend.

I shoot sporting clays out at ASC. For pistols I shoot at Memorial (I-10 and Bunker Hill). Admittedly I've only been there a couple of times, but it seems like a great operation.

Head out to the pistol range at ASC. My shooting buddy and I try to get out there about every other weekend, usually Saturdays on the 15 yard (west end). We tend to shoot right next to the shotgun testing range because it is the furthest from the masses.

Luckily...

....I have days off during the week as ASC (About 20 min away from where I live in Richmond,TX) gets REAL jammed up on weekends. Thats not to say its not busy - just that you aren't elbow-to-elbow with everyone and have a better pick of spots weekdays. Unless you go REAL early on a Sunday.

The nice the thing about where I live is having TWO Academy's close to me on 59 - one at Richmond, the other a tad outside the Beltway on 59. Both have been well stocked - and yeah - second the OP. Monarch brass is what they have in good supply - usually 9/.38 - sometimes .45. Heck if you aren't picky, they have Monarch steel cased in 9mm usually for about $8/50.

I am a lot closer. If you put one through the roof at the 15 yrd line it could land in my back yard.

I agree with the weekends. I used to go mondays because it was dead and I had the place to myself which was great for chrono work but the closed on monday for break and now I have been so busy that weekends are about it.

If you go to the 15 or the 25 yard line it is usually pretty empty. That is where I hang out.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just bought the last full cases of 9mm they had. They still have several thousand rounds in individual boxes though on the display. This is brass cased, boxer primed, reloadable 9mm made by Privi Partisen from Serbia. High quality stuff. I have had excellent results with their .308.

It comes in 2000 round sealed cases at around $440 a case.

I went to Cheaper Than Dirt in Fort Worth last week to stock up because they just got more ammo in. Traffic jam in the parking lot. Store crowded. Ridiculous prices. $30 a box of 50 9mm for American Eagle which is not as good as the Privi. The sad thing is they were selling it by the truck load. Prices of guns too stupid to mention.

I have not seen Academy so well stocked up with Ammo in a long time.

I looked at bayourifles.org as it is close to work, but the range open days (friday, saturday and sunday) were an issue for me.

Has that changed?

The Addicks range is open Friday afternoons, Saturday and Sunday. If you get the training and volunteer to serve as a range officer from time to time you can let yourself in whenever you want.

The Juliff range is available during daylight hours every day.
