1x magnification scope

As mentioned, in addtion to fixed 1x scopes, there ARE in fact scopes which dial all the way down to a TRUE 1.0 power (not 1.25 or 1.5), but also dial up to higher magnification. These are ideal for many uses, and in addition to the Nightforce, Trijicon Accupoint, and Leupold make some - perhaps others too. Trijicon's is a 1-4x24, and Leupold offers both the VX1 and VX2 in a 1-4x20 config. Bushnell even has a Banner that is a 1-4x32 - careful though, because they ALSO make a Banner which is 1.5-4x32 (for some odd reason), so you have to look around if you want the true 1x one. The true 1-4 one is typically $10 more than the 1.5-4 one.

The V3 is true 1X not so sure about the Leupolds....
For less then $150 the made in Japan Weaver classiv V3 variable (1X-3X) is a sweet little scope.

Really like the idea of the leupold prismatic. Part red dot, part 1x scope.

Rather than posting a new thread, thought I'd ask in this one.

Do tube red dot sights like this one

have any advantage or disadvantage compared to open ones like this? p004203ii02.jpg

Open ones are lighter and obscure the target much less.

Closed-tube ones work better in the rain and in bad weather, and are easier to keep the lenses clean (like Leadhead said, you can use flip-up covers on a tube type).

I think tube style is best, for me that is. they are more durable imo, by all means.. No target has ever been "obscured" that I have shot at.

but I also prefer no magnification on my red dot. and I dont care to spend the extra coin on something that stayes lit if the battery dies, because I keep fresh batteries on hand, and in my red dot....

no mag helps me to keep an even focus with both eyes open. ever tried switching focus from eye to eye on a 9x scope? its not easy to do super fast.. with any mag it isnt.
but again, thats just me. it throws focus off... it the nature of the eyeball..lol

and in my opinion, dont get a red dot if it dont have see thru flip ups!

again, optics are quite a personal choice, and requirements vary as much as prefrence.. so take yer time and find what works best for what you will use it for!
