Went hunting a few times this year and saw nothing, which is unusual for my spot.

Went out a few days ago, and nothing most of the day. Finally, several deer together. 2 shots, 2 deer, and filled my 2 antlerless tags.

Took the lower one, and give the other one to my buddy who didn't get one.

Had some chops already and it's a good one.

Free range, organic, low fat, no antibiotics, no growth hormone, and local (and probably every other buzz word you could think of).

nice work!

one of my most memorable solo hunts happened kind of like that. had been hunting hard, and was just not having a very good season. finally i changed tactics one day and was rewarded w/ 3 deer in about as many seconds w/ 3 shots. i still had 2 tags left in my pocket and there was another 5 deer standing around not sure what to do, but i figured i had enough work ahead of me already, and held off. good times. nice of ya to give one away, too. well played!

After sitting a few days in the cold you get to the point where you think "at least let me see one so I know they're here".

And yes, the fun stops once the trigger is pulled.

I can do a nice job, but field dressing deer is not one of my favorite things. Between the smell and the gore, uggg.

She was a fatty though. After removing the insides, skin, head, and legs, the carcass weighed 73 lbs. on the butcher's scales. Decent size for local white tail.

Nice going. More details on what you used please.

It was a Belgian Browning BLR (lever action) in .308 with a vintage 4X Redfield Frontier scope, and Hornady Custom Light Magnum 165g. boat tail spire point cartridges.

Distance wasn't great, maybe 60-70 yards.

Funny thing was another deer just stood there with its tail up through the shooting, and until I had half way walked to the downed deer. Finally walked away.

In the photo you can see I had put on my white latex gloves and was about to commence "surgery".

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never noticed much in the way of a smell when gutting. Even when a friend had gut shot a yearling elk. 'Course I can't smell meat/milk that's gone bad either, unless it's really bad.

Indeed, I know what ya mean :D

We here call it "Tuppit" when we get two or more with one shot, most often with shotgunning Ptarmigan and Rabbits , sometimes caribou. Shooting two or more wit as many shots is called "Naloat" and its a cool word to hear from someone watching :D

The work can stack up sometimes ~~LOL!!~~
