20/20 did a pro gun piece tonight on CWP and reducing crime:

Crime went up after the DC gun ban...
NSF did a meta-data study and found NO gun control laws that reduced crime...
Several interviews with plain old folks who equalized themselves with criminals, and it made a difference...

Good for them and us!

It was basically an excerpt from John Stossel's book, Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity.. Nicely done.
 
Great piece on 20/20 tonight

My favorite line in the whole thing and a soon to be bumper sticker on my car is "Gun Control is not Crime Control"
I tried to record this to put on youtube but it was looking very crappy on my camera. I will run a cable to my tv in card tomorrow and see if I can get a better upload of it.
 
How come all the pro gun people in the 20/20 show are white males? Wouldn't it help more if they showed some minorities using guns in a positive light. Showing only white, southern Christian men only helps to enforce the negative message that gun people are rednecks.
John Stossel is very biased towards a certain viewpoint and tends to ignore data that would hurt his argument. A good example is his topic on ethanol fuel. A simple search on the internet will prove most of his theories to be baseless. Personally, I find his show unintellectual, and uninformative. A simpleton could create a more informative show than his team. He makes a mockery out of the hard journalism, that prided itself on unbiased and far reaching reports, only to stoop to the lowest common denominator for ratings.
 
I had the chance to see it tonight... Finally, some common sense! :)

Since many of our nation's founders fit that description, I don't consider it a negative stereotype. In addition, I'm not under the delusion 20/20 is genuinely interested in promoting the second ammendment rights given to us by those "rednecks"

Because, for whatever reason, the majority of gun owners are old white males.

Yeah, I know lots of minority gun owners and those that shoot with mostly minority gun owners will chime in, but hey, that's the statistical truth. With a small sample, it's not surprising at all that every politically active gun owner interviewed was a white male.

Not all white males...Stossel interviewed a black man in Kennesaw, Georgia who said that city's ordinance requiring all homes to have a gun has made the city a safer place to live.

And you're saying this is different than the rest of the mainstream media's propagandatainment?

Everything ever shown in the MSM is oversimplified and heavily biased to support a left-socialist-nannystate viewpoint. Stossel puts together pieces that are oversimplified and heavily biased to support a more right/libertarian viewpoint. He is a drop in the ocean, however.
 
Maybe they show southern Christian white males because the media for too long has equated any black, hispanic, or now Asian male with a gun as a criminal? I don't believe it, but I think many in the media do, and therefore, many Americans do, because this is what the media feeds us.

Off topic, but on the ethanol issue, I have seen reports that about 3-4% of the energy derived from one gallon of gasoline is used to pump, transport and refine that gallon, while with ethanol, about 70% of the energy derived from one gallon of ethanol is used to plant, grow, harvest, distill and transport that gallon. That means if we switched to 100% ethanol fuel, we would need to distill about 5-7 million gallons of ethanol per day to keep up with the current 1.9 million gallons of gasoline we use per day in the US. (Note my numbers may be off, because I don't have the reference info in front of me). It seems soybean oil, which was the original fuel for the diesel engine, has fallen out of favor for some reason. Maybe the soybean lobby is not as powerful as the corn lobby?
 
the door has indeed opened recently and people are honestly looking at the other side. 32 people dead will tend to make you wonder if the police can protect you. Not sure how many will believe overnight it is a absolout right but more and more people seeing the advantage of a gun and being able to protect yourself is a damn fine start.
 
Problem is...... even though many folks are starting to see the light about protecting themselves, there are still just enough anti-gun folks in the positions of authority that will still ban guns from their establishments. Until the law gets changed to where, at least, permit holders are allowed to carry in places like schools, churches, etc, there will still be "victim zones". Mall of America just had a stabbing today. Crimes is everywhere and is not limited to guns. The Mall security sure did a great job of protecting the woman that was stabbed. :rolleyes:
 
Can't let up the pressure on the anti's. There's sometimes a temptation to ease up since you feel like you're winning. Increase it now, vote, talk to your reps....and then this sliver can become momentum.
 
Come on..... I've had a gun of one sort or another since I was 9 years old. And since I was born in Massachusetts I hardly consider myself to be a Redneck.

And while we're on the subject, they got the name "Redneck" because they are out in the sun WORKING. You know..... Earning they own living, and not asking to be on the dole. Maybe this country could use a few more people with red necks?

Q: How do you know if you're a redneck?

A: You have two uncles and three cousins named "bubba".

I'm not from Mass; I grew up in west TN.
Guess that makes me a "redneck".

I worked my way through high school
and college in a gas station,
then got a PhD (biology).

I'm not proud, but I'm at least as smart as most anti's,
and can recognize logical fallacy when I see it,
whether from red neck or anti.
