I need help setting up a 20 gauge remington 870 for HD (for a lady), and due to the lack of popularity of the 20ga I'm having a hard time finding the pictures and reviews I need before ordering a few accessories.

Does anyone here know if the Nordic +4 extension is as reliable as the Wilson Combat textensions? Also, does the Nordic +4 stick past a 21" barrel?

Also, Daniel Defense and Scattergun Tech. both make burnsed sling loop endplates that fit between the reciever and stock of a 12ga 870, but does anyone make similar to fit the smaller 20 ga recievers?

Best advice I can give, having had some experience along those lines, is to leave off the extension, or at least be prepared to offer her the opportunity to handle and fire the shotgun both with and without the extension. Weight on the gun forward of the support hand 'feels' a lot heavier than it really is. I'd also advise keeping things as minimalist as possible. About the only things that really need to be on the gun are a short stock (considering the physical size of the shooter, of course) - the Youth Model 870s have a 13" factory LOP and those seem to do well. A premium recoil pad is also a big help. A white light is useful, and so is a Sidesaddle or even a butt cuff. I have a strong preference for two-point slings on shotguns, set up with QD swivels so they can be easily removed if necessary. But keeping as much weight as possible between the hands is generally a Good Thing, and IMHO a primary consideration.

I rebuilt a 20GA 870 bird gun for my wife. Little bitty thing that she is I had to lop an additional inch off the stock for a good fit, and took the tube back to 20". Ghost ring sights, two point sling with QD swivels, and a butt cuff. Seems to work pretty well for her.

I'm assuming you are going to 20g for the lady with the expectation of reduced recoil.

You may not get what you want, at all.

Yes, the 20g is a less powerful round than the 12, but the 20g 870 is a much lighter gun. The felt recoil might be just as great.

Have you considered a 12g, using "reduced recoil" loads? That might be more the way to go.

do you ever actually seen the need for more than 4 or 5 shotgun rounds in a home invasion scenario? and a sling? really? I know combat shotguns look cool and all, and if that's what you want, sure, go for it, but for 2 guys stealing your tv in the night seems like a regular shotgun with the barrel chopped, 2 inches taken off the stock and a good recoil pad mounted would be just fine sitting behind the bedroom door.

A sling on a HD gun is, IMO, just something to go wrong by getting snagged on a door knob or piece of furniture at the wrong moment. The 20's recoil may be as much or more than a 12 as mentioned and adding doodads makes the gun that much heavier.

Get whatever gun fitted to her, and get her lessons. Personally, I would arrange for her to shoot several guns before buying anything

I concur with all this.

Fred also gave good advice on the weight issue - I have set up shotguns for my wife and other ladies, and offhand weight is always a huge issue.
