I just purchased a Marlin 891t..Didn't shoot it yet. But it looks great

I have owned one for several years, since I bought it my 1022 has not come out of the vault. I installed a Bushnell 3x9x40mm full size scope, no rimfire scopes for me. I love the rifle, great shooter and very accurate.

Go to the pawn shops and look for most any older Remington, Marlin, Glenfield, etc. gun that tickles your fancy. I found a very nice Glenfield model 25 (magazine fed bolt action) in a pawn shop for $54. Great shooting gun and I don't believe I would part with it for 3 times the price!

I used to be on a real kick of buying up older .22's and refinishing their stocks/cleaning them up. MAN I found some real beauties in those bargain piles! Older Marlin and any of the house brands made bay Marlin are great deals. The only thing better IMHO is the older Remington 51x series. ( I've got them all :).
These older guns were full sized vs kid sized and used little if any plastic. Their fit , finish and cosmetics are far superior to anything under $500 today.

Marlin 925. With a $30.00 Barska 3-9x scope, I can group < 1 inch at 50 yards all day long. Fit and finish are very nice. It has that "real gun" feel to it.

Best part is I paid $150.00 for mine less than a year ago. Check Wal-mart, I think they still sell these.

The Remington 510, 511 and 512 series of bolts.

Quite possibly the most accurate .22's ever mass produced.

Check Gunbroker.

I agree with that, i aqcuired Remington 512 that my grandfather bought a couple years before he went into WWII, was the first gun i fired, and hasnt been fired in 30 years until last week. needed no adjustments to the sights and i was able to put the first 10 rounds inside the quarter size bullseye.

I enjoy scouting around and finding old .22s to clean up and shoot. IME, there are many gems at bargain prices out there and a lot of fun to be had.

Were I buying new, within your parameters I'd look at Marlin. I think they're just a bit more gun and better value than the Savage. I own both and have no complaints with either. My $.02.

picked up a springfield training rifle in bolt action at a gunshow 85 bucks, extremely accurate and fun to shoot and has some history to it considering the date is 1945 on it ;) pre serial number too lol, oh got this gun two weks ago lol
