One last question for the experienced shooter's here. During my string of 25 shots next weekend, should I bore-snake the bore after 15 rounds, or just shoot the whole 25? Will the barrel fouling toward the end skew my results?

You're using Varget don't worry about it. Heat will cause you way more problems than fouling in just 25 shots. So don't let the gun get too hot to hold your hand on.

Some barrels shoot better clean and some better when fouled. In your case, you have to shoot the rifle more to find out. Yes you could clean every so many rounds if you want but if you do not try this.....

The round robin technique, it will eliminate fouling errors somewhat. Fire a single round at bull # 1, then #2 and so on till you have fired 5 shots at five different bulls. Your barrel should be warm by then and you can give it and yourself a rest. Let the barrel cool and continue this until all 25 shots are fired, when done you will have five 5 shot groups fired in a way than all were shot with simular fouling.

In the picture I posted earlier in this thread, it shows an example. The only thing dfferent is that I used 3 shot groups and 10 different bulls for a total of 30 rounds fired. There was no cleaning of the barrel at any point. This was a ladder test with .3gr increments. I started upper left to the bottom right. With having 10 differnt loads, you have to have your witts about you as to keeping right order and load. Shooting the same load is much easier.

This is the same technique that I use for load development. Shooter fatigue is an important variable too, along with wind changes, heat, fouling, etc so if you distribute the errors "evenly" you'll end up with more meaningful data. For five different loads (5 rounds per load), your day would look like this.

Shot #1 = Load #1 on target #1
Shot #2 = Load #2 on target #2
Shot #3 = Load #3 on target #3
.
.
.
.
.
Shot #23 = Load #3 on target #3
Shot #24 = Load #4 on target #4
Shot #25 = Load #5 on target #5

:)

My Savage does have a 20" stubby barrel:D I added the link to Sierra that I forgot last night. My crony may very well be off, or worse, my scale:eek: Gonna try that shooting method, too, but first I gotta get my scope back from Swift:)

Wow, this is a tough crowd to please.

He was proud of his group, and it was a good group, and it wasn't like it was entered to win some kind of competition. So, who really cares if this was a 3-shot, 5-shot, 10-shot, or even larger string?

It looks pretty, and it works for me :)
