The match ran super smoothly. It was awesome. I had a great time.

Hats off to the staff for putting on such a good match.

Personally I could have did better, you know how that goes. :) I just have not practiced as much this year as I should have, and I hope to remedy that for next year.

We had a whole bunch of shooters from out of state, and all of them that I spoke with were very impressed at the overall quality of the match. It was fun, but challenging. Stages were well thought out. No bottle necks. Ran through that many shooters and stages, took a lunch break, with very entertaining ammo demonstration (thanks Jeff OTMG) and still managed to get done in something like six hours. That is amazing.

Prize table was pretty darn good if I do say so myself, but I'm biased. ;)

One very happy shooter!

I'm the handsome bald guy in the first picture. The red shirt just screams don't shoot me. :)

That's me on stage 1. Geez I look fat in that one. (I can do the whole 300 pound stack on the row machine at the gym though! I just have a wide back!)

And in the last picture I'm the sucker running the prize table.

Larry Correia did an outstanding job with the prize table...even I got something I liked...actually two things (we had enough prizes for everybody to pick twice from the table 160+ prizes!):

1) Pair of Alumagrips
2) Springfield Armory hat (oil tanned already shaped...Like a 20.00 hat even!) my new fav.

And everybody got a certificate for a 2 day Front Sight course of their choice!

Match was straight forward...you did well if you shot consistently and avoided penalties.

Big matches aren't where you should go to warp speed...you need to relax and rely and all the practice skills.

I shot 2x a week plus matches on Saturdays about 4 months in advance to prepare...it payed off with a really good finish.

I focused on drills such as:

1. One shot reload one shot.
2. Target acquisition - one shot on 6 targets 1 yard a piece
3. Plate rack drills
4. Move shoot move shoot.
5. Barricade shooting
6. Failure drills - makes you slow down for the 3rd shot (fast than focus go slow).

I also used video tape of the practices to see where I was screwing up and tried to focus on that.

I will do more dry fire practice in the future...I think that smooths up your draw so you can get it down under 1.0

And lastly...I shot several IPSC matches but stuck with IDPA gear (I even used a concealment garment) and rules...the IPSC guys were perplexed...But they go very fast (even if they don't hit ????) and it's good to shoot with really fast guys for pacing. I like USPSA and think that style has allot going for it tactically.

On a side note I started practical shooting in 96 in IPSC/USPSA...but never got out of c class until 2000. Weekly practice helped out so much and I highly recommend it.

Look for a write up of the match soon in the Tactical Journal and other publications.
