200gn .40 S&W?

Norma JHPs worked just fine. My first load in .40, in fact. Just threw a middle-of-the range powder charge in (sorry, don't remember even WHAT powder) and shot bowling pins with the gun. No problems knocking them over, and accuracy testing was no better and no worse than other JHPs

Later experience leads me to recommend against WW231, at least if you're in a hot climate. I'd suggest these days Power Pistol if you don't mind flash, and Unique or Herco for a much milder, more vision-friendly orange flash. Ramshot Silhouette may be the best if it's really the same as WW-WAP--in other bullet weights, WAP was very low-flash.

I have a Glock in .40 S&W that I really learned reloading on. I started with 180 gr bullets but decided I liked the extra pressure margin and better accuracy I got from the lighter bullets.

Now I'm pretty much using Nosler 135 gr hollowpoints exclusively because the accuracy is so good. They have a huge cavity so they don't really give me any better charge volume than the Star 165 TCFMG I was using before but I can't argue with their consistancy.

My standard load for years was 165 gr pushed by Hodgdon Universal, another low-flash powder. The Hodgdon data shows from a 4" test barrel they got:

Bullet: 180 Gr Hornady XTP
Poweder: UNIVERSAL
Max charge: 4.7
Velocity: 903
Pressure: 33,600 PSI

Looks like a pretty good load to me. Obviosuly, work up and if you shoot it from a Glock expect to see some case buldge tward the high end.

With full case support, like in my modified Glock 22, the 40S&W will out perform any 10mm hot load, and out perform any 44 mag book load.

200 gr are my favorite for 40S&W and 10mm.
I prefer the 240 gr for 44 mag, but for comparison sake:

200 gr , Hi-Skor 800X
1) 40sw book load, 6.3 gr

2) 10mm book load, 7.8 gr

3) 44 mag, book load, 15.5 gr
http://www.imrpowder.com/data/handgun/44remmag.php
4) Max 10mm at brass failure, 14.2 gr
5) Max 40 S&W that will fit, but shoots fine, 15.5 gr

I could not do this without great case support, and a stock Glock does not have that. Also the recoil and report are hard to handle.
