Well the preseason September survey revealed 84% less teal in LA than last year. However about 50K were in SWLA. Most were in rice fields but a few were scattered in the marshes. I hunted the marshes and had a total of 6 teal in 6 hunts(this includes 3 scratches). I hunted rice fields twice with one six bird limit and one scratch. The good news is I was invited to hunt a flooded cow pasture and ended the season with 4-six birds limits. so I recorded 36 teal in eleven hunts 4 of witch were scratches!!

It was hot and humid for all the hunts except 2. mosquitos were bad, rained very hard on 2 hunts. My dog had a great time on the last 4 hunts.

Die hard teal hunter,

Bull

I scouted a bit and didn't find any birds. Water is very high everywhere here and some flooded fields were too deep for teal.
I love to shoot and eat them but they just pass through this area on their way south to the STA's and the rice fields in south Florida.

Wow, you make me glad I just sat in my ladder stand and listened to the whistling wings overhead while I waited for the deer that hasn't yet showed up. I looked in 4 stores before I finally found some Thermacell refills. I guess teal hunters are buying 'em all up.

I feel sure teal hunters around here done good just judging by all the gun fire I've been hearing and all the whistling wings I've been hearing over my deer stand. Big time shooting right at shooting time, 30 minutes before sun up. I've not heard any reports, but it's sure been sounding good to me. I've got no place to hunt 'em, or I'd be doing it. Oh, I could go down to the marsh, but that's too much work and the gators are too thick and, well, the heat. :D I just don't feel like putting that much effort into it when I can just walk out back and deer/hog hunt with my new crossbow. :D
