I hunt 12 days of the 16 day season in Cameron Parish extreme SW LA. Teal were scattered in my area . we hunted 4 different blinds and had poor results. I shot 22 blue wings in 12 hunts, I recorded 4 scratches and a couple of 1 bird hunts. the teal migration is late this year. However some hunters did better in some rice fields and other honey holes. I hope that the late teal migration arrives for waterfowl season which starts in early November. My dog and I had a great time! she made numerous difficult retrieves in very dense vegetation for my hunting partners!! Bull
The whole season has been 30-60 days behind the calender. Our "april showers" lasted until early July. Hopefully better hunting ahead, but 22 birds would be great for us here. Salute!
Well over here, down I10 from you, I coulda got a limit Saturday if I'd been sitting on my sendero or maybe out back by the tank. I was sitting in a tree with my crossbow, but the teal hunters were making plenty of noise. Lots of birds zipping overhead.
BTW, I love it when my dog performs well for my buddies. I like to brag on her even if she was trained by an amateur....ME. She was on her game during dove season.
Well MC Gunner my dog made the Teal season for me. I hunted with 2 or 3 other guys and when their birds fell in the tall weeds my dog retrieved almost everyone!! some flew off so far it was hard to mark where they fell. She is 7 years old and keeps getting better. she marks 75% of all birds shot and takes hand signals to the un marked birds. she will not give up til she finds a bird! Bull
In early teal season down here. I won't let my dog retrieve until after 9:00 due to the gators. I have a Boykin Spaniel and she's too small to fight off a gator. Almost all of her early-season retrieves are blind retrieves.
Great pictures guys. We had a couple hunting stock Goldens when we duck hunted. I sure do miss them...
It's hard to find a breeder who has hunting Golden retrievers any more. They're almost all show dogs now like Irish setters.
My dog is a yellow lab.She is a little crazy but hunts very hard. I put up with her faults!! LOL BULL
Yeah, I've never taken Molly teal hunting. The area I used to hunt has too many gators. She's made a few duck hunting trips, but mostly she's hunted doves. Them's good lookin' dogs. Molly is a black lab/mutt rescue dog. She's a sweetheart, queen of the end of the road.
I was lucky to get mine from a fellow in Oklahoma. There was a breeder who was trying to save the breed but this was all back 25 years ago. Don't know if they are still around.
