I started keeping track of my range trips this year, just to see how many rounds I shoot in a year. So here is the data, for information only. I wanted to get a feel for how long my inventory of powder, primers and rimfire ammo might last.

I went to the range 30 times in 2023.
I shot 41 different guns.
Total rounds fired 5344
Total rimfire rounds 3208. 2252 through rimfire rifles, 956 through rimfire handguns.
Total centerfire rounds 2136. 1516 through centerfire handguns, 620 through centerfire rifles.
The gun with the most rounds is an Anschutz 1710HB .22lr with 902 rounds.

Wow.....just wow.

I know approximately how much I shoot because I keep a journal of every round I reload. But as for rimfire and anything factory.....just a wild guess. Never thought about keeping an exact count, altho I do know I went thru 5,000 primers last year alone.

Of those 2136 centerfire rounds, what was the predominant handgun caliber used and the same info for the rifles?

Thanks!

#1 Handgun cartridge - 45 ACP at 486 rds, #2 was 9mm at 336 rds. #1 revolver cartridge was 357mag at 119 rds.
#1 Rifle cartridge - 223 Rem at 210 rds, #2 was 30-06 at 193 rds. Ironically, the 223 was all shot through a Ruger American bolt gun, and the 30-06 was all shot through Garands.

Man I thought I was the only one that Geeky here, tominboise. In 2023 (so far ;)), I've shot 3,351 reloads in 15 CF handguns in 19 range trips. I didn't keep such close track of rimfire rounds, but I'm confident that I put at least 2,850 22LR rounds downrange, mostly in handguns. This has been a great firearms year for me! So was last year, and the year before that, and the year before...

You are not the only one that geeky I think a lot of us are. I log every new load I do for the 9 calibers I reload every time I use a new component have been doing it for 23 years . I have been to the range 43 times this year. I don’t keep track of my round count but I usually take 3 guns and about 500 + rounds with me but to be fair I am retired now 4 years.

Average range trip for me, I shoot about 150-200 handgun centerfire, 50-60 rifle centerfire (non semi-auto) and a few hundred rounds of .22lr depending on the guns I brought that day. I don’t track more meticulously than that, but having a pretty good idea means I can realistically plan for future range time.

26 Range Trips. 2245 Total rounds.
12 Centerfire Rifles. 280 rounds.
10 Centerfire Handguns. 1155 rounds.
2 Rimfire Rifles. 810 rounds.

I go on average 2x a week, usually shoot between 100-500 handgun rounds depending on the guns I brought. (Magnums fewer, Rimfires get a much higher count.)

Rifles, I go 6-7 times a year to the 100 yd range. I am usually bringing 100 or so rounds to shoot with me.

These are just guesstimates.

Stay safe.
