Billy here & I'm new to the modern black rifle I have a older hawken 50 cal and use the magnum 11 caps but that's all good my question if anyone can help is with the modern. I have a CVA wolf 209 magnum. Can I use a 209a primer in place of the standard 209 ?

209A is a hotter primer than the 209. I think there would be a point of impact difference if you interchanged them. Plain 209 are older than 1990something. Both should ignite pellets.

will work, but 209 primers have way more oomph than required. There are some lighter 209 primers marketed as "muzzleloading" that may give you better results as far as consistency goes but any 209's should make it go boom.
Best way to find out if it makes any difference in your rifle is to try them.

thanks gunna give a go not to keen on getting around this fourm it will take some time to get the hang of it thanks again let you guys know after i get my new rifle

I agree. Most are too hot. One of the "coolest" are the Fiocchi 209 primers. I've seen the test results and have used them myself. Pick some up and give them a try.
