Hi Folks, I recently aquired a model 64 219 Zipper out of a lady's garage (free). It was in a case but had been there for many years and had some rust issues. The gun has cleaned up fairly well and the action is good on it but the issue seems to be the chamber. When I cleaned the gun there was a layer of rust I could see in the chamber. I have wire brushed, oiled...everything I can think of to get it out and it appears most of it is out but I cannot seem to fully chamber a 219 round in it. It stops about 1/16th inch short.

My question is if there is a solvent or something else I can put in there to dissolve any rust film that appears to be hindering a round from fully chambering? I blocked off the chamber end and filled it from the muzzle with penetrating oil but I appear to be only gaining millimeters at a time. The bore looks great but the chamber I can't really tell. Looking for some advice on how to proceed or do I just need to continue with the elbow grease?

Thanks,
Kurt

Wow! A free Model 64 is a rare thing indeed!

Take a .40 cal bronze bore brush, a cleaning rod, a cordless drill, and some 0000 Extra Fine steel wool.

Wrap the steel wool on the bore brush.
Stick the cleaning rod down the muzzle, and screw the brush on inside the receiver.
Now, oil it, and using the cordless drill to spin the cleaning rod & brush, clean the crap out of the chamber.

That was a great suggestion. Worked like a charm and I managed to fire 13 rounds (all I had) thru this week.

Ya, free. I was asked to help clean out a lady's garage and it was there. I asked what she was going to do with it since I collect and have a lot of old winchesters she said just keep it.

Yee ha!!

Glad I could help!

That will usually do the trick unless the chamber is deeply pitted.

Appreciate you letting us know it worked for you.

Enjoy the Zipper!
