I'd rather have the old-style carbine.
Folding stocks don't work well for me and handles under the forend leave me cold.
The dot sight might have some utility.

ICK!

That "modern" Carbine would be about the LAST possible choice of configuration I would choose. Everything on the thing is designed to catch, snag, hook and grab on every obstacle that comes along, and on top of that, it's BUTT UGLY.

As the previous gentlemen have already said, I'd grab the as-issued one and RUN away from the black hedgehog abortion above it.

Well, you DID ask for opinions.....right? (grin)

<gag> But, whatever floats your boat.

My idea of an updated Carbine would be to add an Ultimak handguard then mount an Aimpoint. That way you don't give up the M1's main attraction: a short, light, handy rifle for close-in work, but you greatly improve hit probability especially in bad light.

Well, everybody elsed trashed your idea, but I like it.
It's different and works for YOU. :D

If need be, you could quickly remove the equipment that might snag on something, and you'd still have the folding pistolgrip stock, which is a definite improvement and advantage over the old wooden job.

I commend your enthusiasm and unique approach to a cool old carbine!;)

Wasn't MY idea, and I didn't say I liked it or didn't.

I found it on the FULTON ARMORY website and thought I'd share it with you.

I would probably put a synthetic standard stock and an Ultimak rail on one, and that's about it.

Anyone who needs a vertical grip on an M! Carbine needs to do a few pushups or something.

The recoil on a Carbine is not that much above a .22lr.....but i'm sure there are 10/22's out there with vertical grips...

I think most people are reacting to taking a carbine with historical value from its original configuration and making it into something with less historical value. I like your idea as well, but I would have done it with an Auto Ordnance or another commercial M1, rather than using an Inland from WWII. It is a nice rig however.

I saw your post on TFL after reading it here...

ONE last time: That isn't mine. It is from FULTON ARMORY. I didn't build it, have it built, buy it, or win it.

That's not the point. The point is that vertical grips are "the in thing".:D

Yep. I got one myself:

House Gun !

With a black syntetic stock, rail with a red-dot gizmo, and maybe a cheap laser ( just to persuade goblins to cease and desist, not so much as an aiming aid ), an inexpensive light and a 20 roung mag chock-full with soft nosed pills, the sweet little gun seems the right cure for unexpected goblin visits. I have a modern (Khar made) one, and I've been shooting it a lot. Soon I will begin running soft-points to make sure that they'll always work. If they do, I'll mod-it and post the results.

The purpose of vertical fore grips is NOT to compensate for recoil or the weight of the rifle. The purpose of them is so that you can keep your elbows tightly to the body while aiming the rifle so you can navigate a crowded CQB environment and you create a smaller target for the enemy.

The purist in me sees no reason to make an M1 Carbine "tactical" since an M4gery would be a better choice overall anyway.

How in the heck would you buttstroke a goblin with that light weight plastic stock? Wood stocks and steel butplates for me!!!!:D
