I plan to go back to my mother’s house this summer, and since she has a lot of land, I thought it would be a great opportunity to teach my daughter how to shoot a semi automatic rifle long range. However, I know the laws are very strict there. So, I was wondering if, there were any legal avenues for me to acquire an AR-15 type rifle, semi automatic, chambered in .22. I would be willing to purchase a pre-owned rifle, even if it was relatively expensive. But again, I am not too certain on the laws, so don’t know if that would even be legally permitted. I do have a Ruger 22 there, which my father bought me when I was very young. But of course, I would like her to get familiar with the AR platform. Also, I think she would enjoy it more, and therefore be more likely to learn how to properly shoot mid to long range.

Any advice or information is always appreciated, so thank you in advance.

I'd just call a local gun shop in the area you are thinking of going, and ask them what they think. Local knowledge is usually what you're trying to dig up.

Pretty sure CT has an AWB in place.
Ok (emphasis added):

SO, you probably need to shop for a 10/22 or similar.

CT requires you get a "long gun purchase permit, too, Ref: Universal Citation: CT Gen Stat § 29-37a (2013):
(c) On and after April 1, 2014, no person may purchase or receive any long gun unless such person holds a valid long gun eligibility certificate issued pursuant to section 29-37p
Which requires:
When any long gun is delivered in connection with any sale or purchase, such long gun shall be enclosed in a package, the paper or wrapping of which shall be securely fastened, and no such long gun when delivered on any sale or purchase shall be loaded or contain any gunpowder or other explosive or any bullet, ball or shell. Upon the sale, delivery or other transfer of the long gun, the transferee shall sign in triplicate a receipt for such long gun, which shall contain the name, address and date and place of birth of such transferee, the date of such sale, delivery or transfer and the caliber, make, model and manufacturer’s number and a general description thereof. Not later than twenty-four hours after such sale, delivery or transfer, the transferor shall send by first class mail or electronically transfer one receipt to the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection and one receipt to the chief of police or, where there is no chief of police, the warden of the borough or the first selectman, of the town in which the transferee resides, and shall retain one receipt, together with the original application, for at least five years.

So, you might see what shops are in the area near your mother's house, and see if they have online pages showing what they have for sale.

Thanks for all the info!

It appeared to me that rimfires were excluded from the definition of assault weapons. Even if that is so, there are likely other gotchas that apply in such an "enlightened" setting.
I thought the same, they keep mentioning, specifically, centerfire rifles in the paragraph that identifies assault weapons.

Rimfire rifles are allowed one "evil" feature. So an AR-style .22 LR would be okay as long it has a fixed stock, non-threaded barrel sans flash suppressor, and no bayonet lug. Mag capacity is restricted to 10 rounds, of course.
