.22 Long Rifle

These two have it for sentimental value as I've had them both about 40 years.

I have recently acquired both a 15-22 and an M&P Compact 22 as well, and they are both nice guns.

The poor .22's have kind of taken a backseat to the centerfires lately as I never even owned a centerfire pistol or rifle till about 6 months ago, but now have 4 of them and another on order. The new kids get all the attention but the .22's won't be neglected forever.

My favorite .22 these days is the one on the rig...https://photos.app.goo.gl/kmweDZmnyHnq9C2DA

I put it together as a plinker, but it has turned out to be pretty darned accurate. When I first built it, I was just hoping for acceptable 25 and hopefully 50 yard accuracy, but it's really surprised me. I'm not a big fan of shooting paper, but I do like to shoot at small stuff and hitting golf balls at 100 yards is pretty easy. I'm seriously thinking about putting a Super Sniper 10X on top of it to see what it will do.

I'm wondering if this sort of accuracy is representative of what CMMG barrels will do or if it's just a fluke. I'm almost tempted to build another upper with a 16" barrel to see if it will do 300 yards.

My favorite .22 pistol is my Browning Buckmark, because it’s the only one I’ve got.

My CZ 453 Varminter is super accurate, and my most favorite.22 rifle. It’s also my only one. I would get another, but unless it’s an Anschutz it would be less accurate. Why would I buy something less accthan what I’ve already got?

My favorite .22LR rifle is my Remington 572 I bought when I was in HS back in 1971. My younger brother and I would take it, Dad's little Colt New Frontier convertible, a sack lunch and a brick of Federal yellow box out the a farmer's field and spend all day shooting the little striped gophers and prairie dogs.

My favorite .22 handgun is my stainless Browning Buckmark Camper that my #1 son talked me out of.:scrutiny:

The most loved ones is the Glenfield 99 pops left me. It's still running after 50 years of use and pop's idea of cleaning it was to pour used motor oil into her. Then wipe up the excess on the outside. And the random "Luger" 22 that my oldest sister bought pops for his birthday in '67. Thats mine now that both are gone.

But then there's the ones I've bought
Cz452
Roger precision rimfire
Marlin 39a
Savage mk2 fv sr
Cricket single shot (so much fun to hit steel at 200 yds while people stand slack Jawed that are barely on paper at 10yds)

I have a 452 as well as the Buck Mark. The 452 is an accurate shooter, although if I could, I would by the 453 to get the set trigger if I could do it over again. Overall, though, no complaints. They don't make 'em like that any more. :D

Have you worked on the 452 trigger to see if you can make it more to your liking? IME they can't be made to be as good as a well-adjusted (which to me means very light) 453 in set mode, but most 452s can be made VERY good with fairly minimal effort. I have some 452s with lightened springs which made most of them really good, but I have one with the Yo Dave kit that is not far behind the 453 (I like a light, and even more importantly, creep-free trigger).

There's a Remington Model 513-T Matchmaster on one of the pamphlets my Dad collected when he was a kid.

My favorite .22....hmmm...ALL OF THEM!

I have a bunch; rifles, handguns; autos, revolvers; DA and SA... including two brand new Rugers that have now been sitting for 14 days in California's 10-day penalty box. I can't wait until they're out to go out and fire them like the Ruger American .22 Mag, Wrangler and Dan Wesson .22 LR's I took out last weekend. ("Covid-19" and all that pathetic excuse entails for the ridiculous delay from the DOJ.)

Edit, I just got a text from my FFL, the 10-22 was approved at 1608 this afternoon. I'll wait until the Mk IV is done and pick them up together...

I must admit I do have one .22 on my s**t list right now. My joyous enthusiasm for winning an auction for a really good looking, new-to-me Model 48-4 .22 Mag 6" to pair with my Model 17-3 has waned and my prediction it would quickly become one of my favorites isn't coming true at all. Between the sticky extraction, light primer strikes and now its bound-up action, I'm seriously starting to regret the purchase. Once I send it back to S&W for repairs (With the now months-long backlog for out-of-warranty work at the Performance Center due to Covid-19 again!) I'll see how much more over the final auction, tax and transfer fee bill this gun will ultimately cost me. :(

But man, I do love me some rimfires! :)

Stay safe.

That's a surprisingly heavy barrel on the 513t, I haven't measured it bit I'm guessing about .750" OD. Remington really knew how to make a barrel, that rifle can hold a 1" group at 50 yards if I try real hard - and that's with me on the trigger, a better shooter could certainly beat that. Thanks for showing the booklets, I really liked seeing that!

What's your favorite .22 Long Rifle (handgun, rifle, whatever) that you own?
,

You mean today? This is one of those I think about and really don't know. I have several rifle and handgun with my first given to me when I was 8 years old 62 years ago, a Remington 510P and I still like that rifle. Then there is a 511 and 512 in there along with a 550 and a few other assorted 22 rifles. I have a newer CZ I really like. Handguns I like my Ruger MK II and a 2245 as well as a few S&W Model 17s. I likely have so many because I never really met one I didn't like.

So here is my K-22 Combat Masterpiece.

I believe it to be a fairly early gun but haven't bothered to research it. It was in terrible cosmetic shape when I bought it, and dozens of students and countless miles on the trail have not improved its looks. It locks up tight, has a beautiful sight picture, and of course came with the single action trigger upon which S&W built its reputation.

Despite a safe full of "better" guns, this is the one that leaps into my hands when it is time to go shoot a .22.

I was just looking at Skeeter books last night on Amazon.... I'll get one sooner or later, they're pricy now!

Sweet K-22!

Stay safe.
