I plan on shooting paper and critters up to at least 30 yards away. Im just starting to practice this coming weekend because my ammo is on its way. I will start out at close ranges with the open sights but hope to soon start backing away to further distances.
So like I was saying I plan on shooting paper and critters up to at least 30 yards away. What would be a good red dot or scope to be using with my .22 cal Mark III at these distances ?
I would like to keep it under or around 200.00 if possible. I really am stuck on getting a red dot but I want to hear all suggestions.

My experience has been with a single exception (Bec/NcStar) that the cheap tube type have all worked fine, so buy at the tube size, dot size, and price point you prefer.

For the reflex type nothing priced lower than the Burris FastFire has been usable for long.
My recent warranty experience with Burris suggests you can't go wrong with them!

You can do very well for under $100 with the tube types. For a small tube look to the Bushnell TRS-25 or the Primary Arms MD-09 (~$90). For a larger tube the Tasco and BSA have been great (~$50). I've used so many of these on such a wide variety of guns that while you could pay a lot more, I can't really understand why you'd want to.

I've had one of the Primary Arms on my Draco AK SBR with a Ultimak gas tube mount for several years, figuring I'd replace it with the "real" Aimpoint micro when it failed -- so far I haven't needed to! That's a pretty harsh usage.

Don't get hung up on dot shape or clarity. If you have uncorrected astigmatism none will be round (take a photo of the dot to prove that it is round) and remember you need to be looking through the dot it instead of at it.

I have the Burris FastFire III on my Sig 1911-22 and love it. It is very accurate and in a small package. 75 yards no problem. Around $200.

Another vote for the Fast Fire 2 or 3. I like the fact that it doesn't block the view much at all. I do notice that on my Mk 2 Ruger it seems as though you need to point the pistol lower than you'd think to acquire the dot. Sometimes an issue if I let others use the pistol.

True of all the red dots except for ones mounted to co-witness with AR iron sights. Its simply because the dot sits a good bit higher than the iron sights you are used to looking at.

If $200-250 is in your budget I endorse the Fastfire, I've them on about half a dozen pistols, starting with the original FastFire model.

I prefer the top mounted battery compartment of the Fastfire III, but I'm not too enamored of its multi-function push button switch as I've no use for the "night vision" setting. I also prefer the smaller covers of the Original and II.

As I recall the II improved the zero adjustments, and the III improved them even more along with the top battery and multi-mode switch.

Read the Burris "plain language" warranty on their website, and compare to alternatives before you buy. I can verify they mean it!

I have no experience with that model, but If you like the ultra dot then you should get it. Its only $39 more. Not much to give you peace of mind so you don't have that nagging feelings of "I wish I would have gotten the one I really wanted" Just speaking from experience. I found it on midway for $219 with free shipping.

Yes zerobarrier I found that same deal not long after I posted my original but thanks just the same.
Also thanks for the other link. Thats an interesting comparison.

get an ultradot, they are great. Lifetime warranty and excellent quality with virtually no parallax.

I'm biased, of course, but an UltraDot would be my pick. ;)

I don't have any experience with the micro-sized one, but the other Ultradots are great.

Here's my 'proof':

And the results?
