I bought a 22 LR pistol (Beretta Neo's) for target practice to add to my 8month old pistol collection (Tarus Judge and Beretta Inox Tomcat 32) and its quite fun.

I don't know rifles at all, but am interested in a target rifle for fun. Something that I could scope, is affordable and ammo is available. I was thinking a 22.

Any Reco's on a 22 or other calibre that fits the target practice bill (no hunting)?

Marlin 60... inexpensive, more accurate than it should be for the price, easy to clean after you take it down once or twice. New they are under $200. If you are looking for a beautifully made very accurate .22 rifle and you have $350-500 to spend, check out CZ452.

The most common entry level autoloading .22 rifles are the Ruger 10/22, Marlin 60, and Remington 597. There are thousands of opinions on each one, search will turn up more than you can read. CZ's are a step up, and I don't have one, but I've never heard a bad report. Of course, they're bolt action. I prefer bolt action to autoloaders, but that usually comes after you've been shooting longer. If you're new, probably a semi-auto. It's a personal thing.

Read up on the various models and then go to a gun shop and handle the candidates until you see what fits you the best. Something will call out to you. Or like some of us, everything will call out to you. You might also want to chech out Rimfire Central. More info on rimfires than you can shake a stick at.

In order of price:

Marlin 60

CZ 452

Marlin 39A

.22LR AR-15

A good scope without breaking the bank is the Nikon 4x32 ProStaff at Wal-Mart for $100 with rings. I'd avoid anything cheaper; you'll end up getting rid of them anyway, so it's money down the toilet.

While the CZ 452 looks real nice, the Marlin 60 or perhaps the Ruger 10/22 would fit the budget.....

But do i really need a $100 scope for a $175-$225 gun?

Thanks for your comments so far.

If they ever get this scope back in stock the answer is no: http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&ammoGroup=0&brand=&prodID=SN511072

These are a quality scope for rimfires on a budget. By the way from someone that is a recent owner buy a CZ 452! Best shooting rimfire I own shooting a mixture of ammo. Doesn't require match ammo to shoot match groups. Something that can be said of very few rimfires.

Bought the Marlin 60...found one, new, for $147.00 @ wally world (almost disposable at that price).

They had a stainless version for $197 but I went cheap.

Leaves a little more $$ for the scope.

Don't go cheap on your glass, I have seen to many time's were people have had a good rifle with a cheap, poor quility scope get frustrated, thinking there poor results is from the gun or ammo.
