.22 Short Damage

The Israelis used/use .22LR or those "hits". Don't shoot .22 CBs at animals at any range. My dog was shot with one at 40 yards and required rapid medical attention and the wound was grapefruit sized the next day. It penetrated about 2+" thru the rib cage of the 150 pound dog. It was all I could do to refrain from sending a Sierra Matchking in return !

Slingshot! Good Idea!

I hunt varmints and such with .22 Short

And Squirrel Hunt with them as well! Very effective at taking squirrels out!
1 Shot! and amazing damage in respect to the little quiet round!

Way too powerful, even a cb cap is powerful. The slingshot with paintballs is a good idea. Then you are hopefully training them to get away, and stay away, from people. Deer are a lot like goats. I honk the car horn when I see deer on the side of the road, thinking about crossing in front of a car. I like to think it trains them to get away from cars and that cars are not friendly.

My opinion with any animal with any firearm is shoot to kill, or don't shoot. My uncle learned his lesson when he "peppered" a neighbor dog with #8 shot. The dog died about a week later from a punctured internal organ of some sort. The dog was a beloved family pet and he felt like the biggest jerk on the face of the Earth.

I have shot plenty of coons and skunks in leg hold traps with a .22 short. It had plenty of power to kill at 25 yards. It would even mess the trap up if you hit it by accident. All you need is an inch of penetration to cause a nasty infection and a slow painful death in an animal like a deer.

My employer has a T-shirt canon. It's basically a paintball gun with about a 3" bore. I'm thinking it might launch a small water balloon. That sounds like a humane way to chase away wildlife.

I'll try to sneak it out and give it a shot.

.22 short is used commonly to kill treed raccoons. .22 short is used with careful shots by poachers to take deer. In the right place it will kill a deer.

Personally I used a paintball gun to scare off a problem animal and keep one on top of the kitchen pantry by the back door just in case. Reminds me I need to check the compression in the CO2 in that gun in case I need it again.

When I was pre-teen, they sold those tiny Astra .22 Short pistols for $25 at Imperial Hardware store. My cousin and two of his friends (they were older than us) bought them and went to a bar to get drunk. They got rowdy and started shooting each other in the butt. My cousin got arrested, the others ran. One of them got infection in the wound.

The simple answer is NO. Don't even use CB caps. I wouldn't even suggest 22 shot shells even though beyond 5 feet, they don't have much pentration. 22 shorts are pretty powerful. Try shooting a full soda can and see what happens.

Sometimes I don't read a thread because it doesn't interest me.

And then, when I realize that means I'm shirking my duties as a moderator, I open it and read it.

And see things that, frankly, make me freaking cringe.
