A friend of mine who shoots rifles primarily mentioned the other day that he was interested in getting a .22 semi auto pistol and was asking me for suggestions. I recommended a ruger Mark II or III but he said he was more interested in one that looked more like a 'real gun' lol. So I interpret that as he wants something full size with a slide. I stick to my .22 revolvers and the Ruger so i'm not sure what is out there these days .22 wise. Make suggestions please! :)

I thought I remembered seeing something of the sort recently but i wasn't searching on the right things apparently. Thanks!

I've had a CZ Kadet pistol for about a year - very nice gun - it's like a real gun and one of the best. It's a 22 top end on a CZ 75 frame. Accuracy is like the Ruger autos with better reliability, mine shoots everything - everytime.
All steel. double action, adjustable sights. The only downside is the trigger has a bit of creep. It's modeled after a combat pistol not a target pistol.

I've had a lot of pistols - the Kadet is a keeper!

yes if nothing else just in the past few minutes i've decided to get myself a kadet kit for my CZ lol

Maybe the latest version of th SIG Mosquito might be of interest to your friend. Supposedly most of the problems have been resolved and the pistol is close to being like a full sized SIG centerfire pistol.

I keep reading on the forums about Sig making a 22 lr ala the 226 but I haven't seen one, I've seen a few conversion units for the 226 for sale.

I was jazzed about the Sig mosquito till I read all the bad press about them - same about the Walther P22. The opinions are still mixed about both - some love them some consider them junk.

I have a Sig 228 - great gun which is why I'm drawn to a Sig in 22 but not the Skeeter.

And while you are at it......check out Sig's other .22 L/R conversion kits for several different models. I carry a Sig P-220 .45 auto for duty, and have a Sig P-220 in .22 L/R for "practice", $$, etc.

A .22 shooter in a full size platform, really. The ad only shows the CONVERSION KIT for $375.00 This can be confusing. Many shops are carrying full lines now so you get the .22 upper and a (for example) P-220 lower. THEN, all you need to do is buy the .45 Auto conversion (another $350.00 or so), so really two guns in one, and the switch is VERY easy. I've really enjoyed mine.

It seems that the past dozen or so time I've been to the range, a trusty Walther PP in .22 caliber has been a constant and favored companion. It's not just the price of ammo that is driving this. The Walther is the real deal -- no plastic, no nonsense -- and heck of a hoot to shoot.

I own a sig mosquito 2nd gen and its great. yes it is picky on ammo and will only shoot CCI mini mags or stingers but the feel, look, and reliability are awsome. People are also saying that the 3rd gen have all the kinks worked out but i dont know. Also sig does have a 226 in 22lr. check out budsgunshop.com. They seem like a really nice piece.

ruger mk 11. buckmark. walther p22. beretta 21a.all worked for me.

More like a real gun? That's an interesting way of looking at it.

Conversion kits turn "real guns" into .22 toys. The Walther P22 and Sig Mosquito are toy .22s modeled after their other bigger guns. The Ruger, however, is an extremely reliable, nearly indestructible, and amazingly accurate target pistol. It's not trying to be something it isn't.

I'm not making fun of other .22s -- they're a great way to have fun and save some money, but to me a nice shiny Ruger Mark II/III is the closest you're going to get to "badass" in a .22 pistol (Trailsides and nicer target pistols tend to start looking like goofy ray guns).

I'm just sayin' if he's self-conscious about getting a .22 and he wants something that looks like a bigger caliber, isn't he afraid people are gonna laugh at him when it doesn't make a big loud noise like a real gun?

The Ruger pistols are very reliable and accurate. I've been using one for after-work pistol league, and every round that doesn't go in the X-ring is 100% my fault. That's with Wal-Mart Federal Auto Match ammo. These guns are a bargain, IMO. Other guys have MUCH higher-end .22 target pistols, and I don't feel outgunned in the least.

The 22/45 in 4.5" feels a lot like a 1911 if you close your eyes, and it's available for aroudn $250 new if you look. Well worth it!
