I recently purchased a neat little sporter in 221 FB built around a Sako action. I've reloaded many calibers for many years but never the Fireball. I plan on using mostly 50 grn bullets for my shooting. I have Hornady V-Max, Speer TNT's, and several brands of soft points on hand. Your thoughts on "first try" or favorite powders for this cartridge would be appreciated...

Get a manual that has the caliber. It uses really fast powders in the pistol family (slow for pistol and very fast for rifle) IMR4227 and Hodgdon lil gun are 2 off the top of my head.

My 221 Rem likes a 40 Gr bullet, Rem 6 1/2 primer, with RL 7 powder. Per the Nosler reloading book 17.0 to a Max of 19.0 Gr of powder. My best groups is with 18.3 Gr of powder..
