Hey yall. I made a mistake by ordering 1000rnds
of Wolf HP .223 ammo when I thought I was
purchasing FMJ. Is there much difference
between the performance of the 55gr HP
and FMJ round?

You won't notice a thing. I shoot them interchangeably with no difference in accuracy or effect on target.

In my experience no difference between the FMJ and HP in Wolf 55 gr ammo. The Wolf 62 gr I usually have to set the regulator to "dirty" in my MSAR and SIG 556 or I get the occasional "short stroke", so I've pretty much quit buying it since its usually a few dollars more a case.

I've got a PSA upper and lower build going on, with the upper on its way. It has the chrome lined chamber/barrel and M4 feed ramps....should I expect any problems with the HP over the FMJ?

i've never had a problem with HPs in any of my ARs. All have M4 ramps and 1 is chromed bore and barrel. I shoot a lot of wolf. No issues. It isnt very accurate, so don't expect better than 2 MOA. It is plinking stuff. It is dirty. So clean a little more often.

i have had feeding issues on a 308 with powerpoints - but havent shot any out of the ar(s) - wolf has delivered great in FMJ for me. I would not worry yet....

Us 'hunting types' shoot hollow and soft points out of our ARs all the time. Work great. The coyotes absolutely hate them!

Actually, if I were buying ammo just for plinking and informal target shooting, I would buy the hollow points in preference to the FMJs. They are much less prone to ricochet.

The Wolf HP .223 is a hollow point but its also a steel jacketed bullet. I have shot coyotes with FMJ and the Wolf HP's at different ranges and I can't see any difference in performance. They behave more like a FMJ. They may open up a bit but nothing like a more quality HP and certainly not explosively.

There's no problem.

There's an old bit about being about to use 223 in 223 and 5.56 guns but being unable to use 5.56 in 223 guns.

Hollow points might have a slightly modified trajectory, but there''s nothing that significant at the range's you're probably considering for what you're wanting to do. You'd need to rezero your gun if you're looking for pitch perfect accuracy or running a 3 gun. Outside of those sorts of contexts, no problem.
