.223 62gr BTHP Hornady w/cannelure reloading help??

Ok so I cant find reloading data for this bullet in either the Hornady manual, Hogdon manual or Lyman manual anyone have any suggestions?

Use the data on the Hodgdon site for a 63gr SIE SP bullet. One grain will make no difference.

I'm not sure why the Hornady manual doesn't have data for one if their bullets. I would call Hornady and ask them why.

It's not in the 10th edition either but they do list a 60gr BT bullet.

Just another note, Hornady is listing a 62gr FMJ BT bullet but not a BTHP 62gr bullet. In any case, it should still be listed in the Hornady manual, all their bullets are supposed to be there.

I have the hornady 10th addition and it isnt listed there either. I am going to go with the Data off of Hogdon's web site which is for a 62 GR. SFT SCIR

Varget - COL = 2.260 22.1 grs 2773 fps - 24.1 grs 2974 fps
H335 - COL = 2.260 19.3 grs 2678 fps - 21.4 grs 2887 fps

Lets see how this works.

Varget is hard to meter, lucky me I have 8 lbs of it! after its done I probably wont buy it anymore

I talked to Hornady about this bullet. Was told it was a special order...but was refused/cancelled too late to stop. Mid-South wanted it...so they still make it. Was also told it will probably be added to the normal production some time this year. We'll see.
The design is a closed /metal base (has a rather long BT design) with a open tip. The engineer called it a match type bullet. I seat it just to the cannelure..no crimp.

It shoots very well for me and I load it 24.2 gr of Tac. It fits the mag just fine. I'll try it out to 400 yds this summer...or at least try.

Thanks Mark at least now I know I am not crazy! Looks to me like a good bullet for the price point no?

Did anyone else notice that the 250 ct packs are cheaper per bullet than the 500 ct packs?o_O

That's where I saw that sucker, on Mid South's web. Now that fits. :) Here is the Lil' bugger. I would do, as suggested, treat it like a similar bullet. Nope, I never caught the price difference on 250 and 500 count per bullet.

Loaded up 10 rounds each with varget 22.5, 23 and 23.5 grains hodgdon website says range is 22.1 to 24.1 wont be able to fire it until next week but we will see how it goes. I think these are very good bullets for the money.

Purchased these several times. The math is a bit backwards, isn't it??
Not in front of my notes, but I think I used 24.5g H335 with the 62 hornady hp. My rig loves 'em.

I have a couple of pounds of H335 as well and I will try that too. I try to keep the same powder in my powder drop as its a pain in the ass to take it all apart and clean it every time you switch powders.

Use the 60gr. data in the manual. If you go to Hornady's web site you can download a pdf with the data that includes the 62gr. fmj and they added a few extra powders to.
 
I'm in the process of ladder loading these projectiles with IMR 3031, 4064, and 4895. Seems a few guys are using Ramshot TAC with good results...I will have to find some to try.
 
I use an 62 Gr. by IMI FMJBT 24.2 Grs of W748 very consistent accuracy and clean burning used 500 rounds just yesterday, no malfunctions or fail to feed. quarter size 3 round groups. OL: 2250 FLRS trimmed to 1750 LC brass. WSR primers. Been using this load for years, also use Hogdon 335 same weight.
 
Hello, new to the forum, was glad to see info on these bullets and powders....tried TAC with these , from 24.0 to 25.0grs. These were fired at 100, cloudy, around 65 degrees. Ar home build with Faxon 16" pencil bbl, 3x9 Zeiss Conquest scope.....Bought 500 of these bullets, will order more monday {tomorrow} These are fantastic for the price....best group about 1/2". Will chrono next trip....AS ALWAYS....this load is safe in my rifle, make sure to WORK UP to this level !!! Though this load is not max in the Western Powder reload book i have. Mixed brass, 2.250 oal ....rsbhunter
