223 bolt gun - Savage, Howa, or CZ?

Looking for a good budget 223 bolt gun.

I have it narrowed down to a Savage, a CZ, or a Howa

Can't speak to the Savage in .223, but have a 12FV heavy barrel in .204 that I hunt gophers with (when I don't have to pack it all day) that is very accurate. AccuTrigger is a nice feature. Shoots consistent sub-moa groups at 100 yards all day of a dead rest.

I've got a Savage 110 which is chambered in .223. Its light, inexpensive and accurate. Since the stock is made of plastic, I don't have many qualms about dinging it up out in the field.

CZ - you flat out will not find a more accurate rifle for less than $1000.

I have put about a 100 rounds through my Howa and I love it, I have no experience with the savage though, but CZ and Savage are extremely reputable companies, I think you can't go wrong with any of them.

As I've said in plenty of other threads, I'm a Savage owner too... Model 11GL in .243Winchester. That same model is also available in .223 so that's my recommendation. Only whereas most folks'll tell you to scope it, I recommend having the gunsmith of your choice mount a Williams Foolproof with target knobs.

they are all good, and have their advantages, however. the savage is nice , if you ever wanna change out bbls, and cals, you can do it yourself with the Savage. that being said, i have 4 cz's, you can adjust the trigger with a small screwdriver, without taking anythiing apart, you can adjust them down to whisper fire, and to agree with another poster here, you will not get a more accurate rifle, unless you do a high end , or custom job. my 527 carbine at 100 yds.





As you can see, with the 1/12 twist( yours will be a 1/9) as the bullets got ligher, it became a one hole punch.

I have the Savage 10FP in .223 and the CZ527 in .204 with the walnut stock. The Savage got a new Dura Max stock. The CZ is a bit lighter. Both are very accurate. The Savage trigger is adjustable, but at the lightest setting the bolt will trip the set. Doesn't fire the rifle, just is irritating. The CZ gives you the option of setting the trigger or not, so you have a heavier pull if you are walking around, but a very light pull if you want by pushing the trigger forward first.

Fat, I've been thinking about a .223 bolt action myself. I like the Savage 1:9 barrel twist, all CZ's in .223 are 1:12 with the exception of the Varmint Kevlar which is 1:9 but this gun is around $150 more than the Savage. The Howa's in .223 are all 1:12. For myself I prefer having the ability to load heavier bullets 69 gn and up.

Had a Savage 10FP in .223 with the new Accutrigger. Was an amazingly accurate rifle for the money. Highly recommended. I did buy a B&C aftermarket stock for it, however, as the OEM stock was kinda crappy. Still, a nice overall package for not too much money. I only sold it cuz it was boringly accurate and just sat in my safe.

I much prefer my CZ over my Savage. Both could use improved stocks. There are fewer after market products for the CZ line. No experience with the Howa.

Thanks for all the input. I'm pretty much decided on the CZ (I'll ship the parts out first to get the RVB Precision mag conversion - makes the mag fit flush).
