Been shopping today for reloading supplies for my .223 Ruger M77II and possibly my future Savage 10FP.

Here's what I picked up:

Hornady 40gr V-Max bullets
Hornady 50gr V-Max bullets
CCI 450 Small Rifle Magnum Primers

I've got Winchester 748 Powder.

Do you guys have any suggestions on loads with these bullets?

What COL should I be shooting for?

Any help appreciated.

Steve

hornady lists for 50gr vmax
c.o.l. 2.200"
with win. 748 starting charge 24.5
max charge 28.3

they don't list any data for 748 for the 40gr. vmax.
i got this from the hornady websight.

you should confirm this and any other data that you may recieve on the net.
start low and work up.

What's the twist of the Ruger? The 9" twist of the Savage may be a bit fast for the smaller bullets.

FWIW, the 40gr V-Max gives me spectacular accuracy in my 12" twised Rem 700, but I use a different powder (N133).

27.7 gr. W748 w/ 50 gr V-max. Don't start there. Start lower and work up. 748 shoots good in the .223 but is rather dirty and temp sensitive. Other powders you might like to try in the .223... N133 & Benchmark. If your Savage has a fast twist and likes heavy bullets try Varget.... pooch
