I don't shoot beyond 200 yards but I have a Rock River AR with 16" heavy barrel and match trigger that is amazing at 200 with the right ammo. I doubt a bolt rifle could be better. I have had this rifle for several years and have not kept up with AR prices but at the time it was less expensive than a quality bolt rifle. Just something to think about.

Check out the TIKKA brand of rifles. They are made in Finland by Tikka, which is owned by Beretta, who also owns Sako. I have read good things aout them. I bought a .223 Tikka Varmit last weekend. It has a 22" SS heavy barrel, 1-8 twist & synthetic stock. I'm working up some loads to try this weekend. It did OK with my AR load, but I'm sure it would like something else better. It was around $600.00 & came with one mag & scope rings.

LTR and XCR , main difference between the two? Both are very close in price. I really like the XCR compact but could do either way, sugguestions?

It is quite a hail mary type shot, but I've hit a prairie dog at 600 yards or so one time with standard 55 grain Hornady Vmax bullet fired in my slow twist CZ rifle. It took a few rounds to determine holdover, but it can be done that way.

When I used to shoot highpower the heavier bullets were favored as they didn't seem to blow around quite so much.
