Hey folks -

Every time I visit the range, I'm reminded just how much I love the .22LR cartridge. I'm a shooter on a budget, and whether I'm shooting by myself, or with my girl, or teaching friends to shoot, I just can't beat a brick of bulk pack .22 for a great trip to the range.

Awhile back, I was going to fill out the forms to get myself an 03 FFL, and start collecting more guns. Part of the reason that I haven't already, is simply because I'm hooked on rimfire shooting.

Which brings me to my question - What, if any, handguns are on the list of C&R eligible handguns (revolver and semi-auto) that are chambered for the .22LR cartridge? I don't know much about C&R guns, outside of the most common ones (Mosins, Maks, CZ-52's, TT-33's, etc) which are all centerfire. I've simply never heard of any rimfire offerings.

Any help is appreciated. I'm looking for descriptions, pictures, availability (and sources), basically anything ya'll can tell me about what might be out there for me to get.

IMPORTANT - I would like to ask that this thread not veer into other types/calibers of handguns, unless it is in regards to a centerfire pistol that can be converted to .22LR. I'm aware that there are some very nice, very inexpensive centerfire caliber C&R eligible firearms out there, but for now, I'd like to keep the focus on .22LR.

Thanks!

The problem with C&R .22 handguns is that they are going to be mainly U.S. manufactured guns that are on the list due to the fact they are over 50 years old. That means there is going to be some collector interest, usually, and that they aren't really going to be a bargain like the cheap C&R milsurps.

Off hand, I can't think of *any* mil-surp or C&R .22 handguns that have been imported in any quanity.

Any Rifle, Handgun, or Shotgun more than 50 years old qualifies as C&R.

Yep, that means there are tons of C&R .22s out there. I particularly like the old H&R and Iver Johnson revolvers...they are lots of fun and not expensive.

Colt Woodsman .22 automatic pistols are eligible, regardless of age. This includes Huntsman, Challenger and Targetsman.

As others have posted ANY firearm 50+ is eligible WHETHER ON THE LIST OR NOT. It's funny, but some dealers don't understand that.

There are numerous firearms on the BATFE C&R list that are eligible and much YOUNGER than fifty years old. These were added due to their status as collectible or unusual items.

Yep. funny and frustrating!

As an aside, S&W changed over to the model numbers for their revolvers in 1958, that means next year every Smith without a model number will be a C&R...whoo hoo!

Well Makarovs have german conversion kits available. I swear they are louder with .22's though, crazy commie guns.

i have a beretta .22

its like a model 1934. it is definitely over 50yrs old, since granddaddy brought it back from ww2.
