I was not impressed by Bass Pro's ad for Winchester Small Game Ammo (.22LR) 100 rds. @ $8.49 (limit 2). That's 8 1/2 cents per pop !

I think I'll wait until it's about 5 cents per rd.:neener:
Really depends on exactly which flavor of 22 LR it was. Winchester, like CCI, Remington and a host of others make several flavors of 22 LR ranging from inexpensive to holy crap it really cost that much. So while 8.5 cents a round may seem steep that is normal for many flavors.

I finally got my hands on a bunch of .22lr for a price my friend and I could swallow. I bought 2,000rds of M22 for $.08/rd at a local range and a brick of Remington Cyclone for $41 shipped via the Cabela's website.

Yeah, maybe I could have done better if I checked walmart everyday, but I haven't been able to buy a whole brick of 22lr in at least two years.

Target/Match at todays Mid Pricing

If you have not tried Norma's TAC-22, you might be surprised of its accuracy. I'm just suggesting if someone has not mentioned. I bought a case today @ $570.00 delivered and should arrive early next week. :D

NormaUSA will soon have the TAC-22 MATCH here at $800/case + delivery at their retailers.....I was told by them last week.

There are 4 Walmarts with in a 20 mile radius of my house and none of them had any .22lr when me and my friends go ammo hunting. They have everything else except .22lr.

It has pushing THREE YEARS since I've seen 22lr in an ammo case at a wal mart.

Round here I see ZERO indication that the situation has eased in the slightest.

Last Wed, i was at my local Academy and they werent too busy. The guy at the counter who i ve known for a long time let me have 250 rds of the REmington Thunderbolt (cheapest price at $2.29 a small 50 rd box).

That was nice of him. I quickly grabbed it and left. NO more asking questions. But of course they have plenty of the more expensive Aguila, Federal and CCI brands which i dont really care. Remington Thunderbolts is perfect for plinking and the most practical.

It's been 2 years, unless maybe you just checked one or two local stores sporadically and you had some kind of local issue? This was all set off with the panic in Dec of 2012.

Why does bass pro shops have ammo so cheap?

$24.99 for a brick of 500 22 Remmy golden bullet.

Thing is, there are none close to me.

I'm tired of looking online and seeing prices around 10 cents a round, that's a rip.

Academy has a 525 rnd box for 21.99.

I hope this shortage ends soon. I'd love to get out and plink but I'm not going to pay double for ammo.

Still high, but cheaper than others.

The key is to get people in the store or ordering online. Because if people place an order, normally they add others things to the cart (online and in person) because "well... I'm already here". It's like restaurants having beer lunch specials or car dealerships giving away free things for a test drive. They get you hooked...

I would love to go back to under $10/a brick but I know those days are gone forever but I feel anything over $20 is too much. Do you really think $25/brick is all that cheap?

that would be a good price for Mini-mags , but not for bulk rems , that bulk box should be about $14.99 but then again this Bass Pro, they were getting $30 for a pound of powder last year

I was at the nearest BPS last week in Pearland (probably 100+ miles from me) which is the nearest and I was appalled at their total lack of ammo. Shelves were half bare. They did have pretty good selections of common semi-auto pistol calibers. I was looking for .44mag and ,357mag. They had one box of .44 in 240gr. rn ... not what I wanted. They did have a few.357's and I got a couple of boxes of 125gr. HP. Prices were higher than I'm used to seeing at the local Academy. They had no .22 rimfire at all.

I was pretty disappointed.

Local bass pro is slim pickins for rimfire. When they have it, I have found their prices to be fairly reasonable, usually only a hair more expensive than walmart.

In the last year I have bought .45 there, about $2/50 higher than walmart. .22lr I found blaser one time, $23/500.... CCI Minimags $22/300 (IIRC) a couple times. No steals, but decently priced given today's market IMO.

Sadly, I consider anything south of about $.08/round to be almost buy without thinking about it. I guess the days of $.02/round .22lr may be over, even for bulk Federal or similar.

Personally, I wouldn't take ammo from Bass Pro if they were practically giving it away after wasting my time trying to buy a rifle for my wife last month.

I'll happily take my business elsewhere, even if it means paying more money, for decent customer service.

This is not to say I think everybody should take their business elsewhere...just that I will be.

Which means people like you will have more ammo available because people like me aren't buying there!

:)

I paid about the same thing for 500 Remington Thunderbolt at Cabelas the only reason I bough the ammo is they had a free shipping deal going. I would not have bought the ammo if I had to pay shipping.

There's little to nothing that interest any longer me about Bass Pro or Cabelas. Sure they have lots of inventory of stuff...mostly from China. Ammo is available lots of places and from much better retailers. Guns, no way would I every by a gun through them...I've come to detest these big box stores with a passion. I'd much rather support local small shops and am willing to pay a small premium to do so. If there's something in particular I want or want a better price, we'll it can always be delivered to my door by Amazon usually at a lower price. Lot's of great retailers on Gun Broker also that have a much better selection than anything BassPro can put together...

BPS and Cabelas usually buy in massive quantities from my understanding so im sure they're cut a deal on the dealers end. Its supply and demand.

They will use it for what used to be called a "loss leader" or something like that. Sell at or close to actual cost simply to build traffic into the store or website. Get them into the store and hope they leave with more stuff, works pretty well on things that are hard to find or cheaper than usual.

Because its remy golden bullet and its a last resort for many shooters. I wouldnt buy it at $10 a brick unless absolutely mothing else was available under $50
