I bought these bullets the other day at my local gun store. There already lubed and sized(.452). I'am going to use them for reloading 45 lc cowboy loads. what is a good powder to use and how much? Also could you use these for conicals and shoot them out of a pietta remmy? Since it is a 230gr rnl i was thinking like maybe 20gr goex fffg under it or is it not safe to use this kind of bullet for conicals?

That bullet will work fine if you can:
  • get it under the loading lever
  • if the diameter is large enough to give you a tight fit, cutting a bit of lead is ideal.

That load will work too. Give us a report back.

If I was loading these for a 45 LC revolver, I'd load 'em in a case with 25 grains FFg and a little ground corncob filler.

I would be concerned with leading if those bullets are used in a 45 LC. The 45 LC normally needs a .454 bullet while those .452 bullets are made for the 45 acp.

mlr1m;

Depends on manufacture date of the firearm & ammunition.
Since after WWII the .45 Colt revolvers & the ammunition available for it was standardized to a nominal bore diameter of .452 because of some that were purchasing cylinders for the .45 ACP round & other reasons.

These bullets are lubed with Lee liquid Alox as per their design. They are probably best shot with smokeless powder since the lube is not condusive to black powder. I would try 7.5 grains of Unique in the .45 Colt. Mild enough for cowboy-level conversion cylinders. They may or may not give acceptable accuracy since the Pietta '58 Remmy is rifled with 1 in 36" twist which is a bit too slow for a bullet of this length at subsonic velocity.

I'll be loading smokeless so 7gr of unique was the load I was leaning towards. Also I thought about trailboss or American select. I don't really know which would be best.

Trailboss is about the most fool-proof smokeless you can get your hands on. Check Hodgdons reloading data online for specifics. Trailboss works great in low pressure cowboy loads and it's almost impossible to overcharge. Just make sure you don't compress the powder or strange things will happen.

I have been shooting Trail Boss powder with cast bullets in 38sp in my GP100, 45acp in a 1911-A1 and in 45Colt in a Walker Colt with a conversion cylinder. It is very accurate in all these guns.

I have loaded 230gr LRN in both 45Colt and 45ACP performed well in both guns.
