rifle, carbine, or even a submachine gun??? Everytime he goes on some CTU tactical mission, he has that stupid handgun. I have never seen him take a carbine or a sub-gun. It makes no sense to me. I mean, yeah Jack is a one man army, but come on. How many of you would go take on terrorists without at least a MP-5 or a M-4 or anything with a barrel length over 5"? I think it would make it more realistic if he would use a long gun of some sort.

And what is up with the "football" getting lost in the desert and Marwan's guys getting there before the Marines? Major plot hole considering the plane was supposed to land in Los Angeles and instead it re-routed to Palm Springs and got splashed in the desert. Some how some local yahoos find the football right before terrorists who were expecting the President in Los Angeles get there in their dune buggies. Also, where is the CAP that just let Air Force One take a hit without deploying mass countermeasures? Surely they know how to straff terrorist dune buggies. Then again, this is all based off of just seeing the previews from next week, so maybe it will make more sense next week.

You know what would have been cool, is if some how Air Force One crashed in AZ and the Minutemen stumbled onto the crash seconds before dune buggy driving terrorists who managed to get from Los Angeles to AZ within 10 minutes. That would be a fun shootout.

there was a thread that says his gun isnt even a real gun.
i imagine he needed a fake plastic, soft, light gun.
he's always needing his hands free, holstering his weapon.

his backup carries the bigger stuff, plus he's SUPER maN! he NEver misses!

Also, where is the CAP that just let Air Force One take a hit without deploying mass countermeasures?

Ummm ... this President is nowhere near as interesting as David Palmer so I would be glad if his character was killed. I want David and Cheri back on the show! :cuss:

Sherry's dead. But President Unhappily Ever After is too, if that's any consolation.

Also, you can see President Palmer sell auto insurance during the commercials.

If I recall correctly, Agent Jack once used a sniper rifle earlier this season to kill a couple of terrorists who were holding a "computer guy" (a friend of Chloe's ?) hostage.

I believe Agent Jack used a rifle while in the gun store to fight off some defense contractor mercenaries.

Also, I think Agent Jack used some type of long-gun (MP-5 ?) during his
one-man rescue of the Defense Secretary (and the Secretary's daughter aka Jack's girlfriend).

:neener: :p :neener:

You are correct about the sniper rifle with the computer tech. However, in the rescue of the Sec Def he did not get a hold of an AK-47 until he was already in the compound and pulled it off of a dead terrorist. The same goes for the Mini-14 he had at the gun store, he didn't get it until he got there. Now the gun store situation I understand because he went to the defense contractor not planning on fighting for his life against armed mercenaries, but all of these other situations he knowingly goes into combat on high stakes raids with nothing but a handgun! Come on now!

My wife keeps asking, "why doesn't he secure the BG's weapon after he takes them down." My wife is no tactical princess. Bullets make her nervous, but even SHE laughs at how ridiculous the show is.........

we still TiVo it, though..<shrug>

I've only seen one episode of it where there was a nuclear blast and russia attacking warships and so on. The played up tension with him on the phone after being on a helicopter crash seemed so ridiculous, and then he just ran off on foot without telling anyone about the crash

Sherry's dead. But President Unhappily Ever After is too, if that's any consolation.

Death of a character would mean nothing to a show like 24. They throw everything PLUS the kitchen sink at you during each season so why not bring back dead characters? In this case, it would be a plot hole I can forgive. :D

Aw! Guys...It's a Male Soap Opra!...Relax and enjoy the ride. And pray that not a one of use is ever really put in harms way or our love ones..And to those who have a love one at war..Let's pray they get home safe and sound both physically and mentally.

Be safe.

Yep, it was going good with the reactor plot and tracking Marwan. However, when they killed Dena and went for the President - jumped the shark.

I love Dena! What a voice!

Seems like it is getting dragged out for me.

That woulda been funny to see the FBI impersonators Glock go KB! though :neener:

I have to say it was nice to see Jack dispell the popular hollywierd myth that hiding behind a sheetrock wall is protection.
When he took that FBI imposter out through the wall, I had to smile :)

It its a much better season than #2 and #3

However.. if our top security units are truly plagued with all that inner office sex politics. Then we are doomed. I mean no one in CTU is acting like a real professional.

Jack uses the handgun for the same reason that he does everything else, it's in the script. It doesn't have to make sense. You think a professional organization like CTU would actually have people like Edgar and Cloe employed? Not likely.

I have to say it was nice to see Jack dispell the popular hollywierd myth that hiding behind a sheetrock wall is protection.

I loved that too.

But when I commented like "Finally, a show where the walls aren't made of several inches of steel", some guy was like "Yeah they are!". :scrutiny: :uhoh:

I'm glad to see that everyone else liked Jack shooting through the wall to kill that chic. I'll bet she took cover behind that wall thinking it would work for her just like it worked in all those movies she grew up watching!

Anywho, the show is great and I make sure to be home every monday to watch it. I don't mind the soap opera love mess going on, though it would be nice to see more professionalism at some points.

That AF1 didn't immediately deploy serious counter-measures when they rec'd warning, was a joke. I'm not .mil and even I know that that would be the first thing on the 'to-do' list. What were they thinking? And why weren't more fighters dispatched to that area? They had to have some warning from CTU and should have been scrambled ASAP!!! :cuss:

And don't get me started on Jack not using a longarm when the situation allows. I'll give him some leeway, but.....

the last few weeks have definitely had a lot of holes. I find it extremely hard to believe that a person who was dishonorably discharged AND on the terrorist watch list could gain access to, and take off in a Stealth Fighter that easily. The longarms thing is something I've been ranting about to my girlfriend and parents who all watch the show. Also, the part with Jack giving up sensitive information over a cell phone to an FBI agent that he doesn't know and then when he doesn't ask to see her ID when he gets there (especially after she points a gun at him) was pretty far out there. I like the show and haven't missed an episode this season, but some of the holes I've noticed lately are awfully big.

Why is it so difficult to believe that a skilled operator (Jack or another) with a pistol could defeat a BG with a long gun? Especially, IIRC, all his shots were within easy pistol range.

it isn't. What's difficult to believe is that in a situation where he's planning on having a firefight with people armed with FA rifles and sub machine guns, he handicaps himself by picking a pistol. In the episode where he used the bolt action rifle, you could see at least one M4 and MP5 in the cabinet in the back of his truck. It doesn't make any sense that he wouldn't use them in such a hostile situation.
It goes back to the whole thing about bringing a knife to a gun fight (only i guess this is a pistol in an MG fight)

i was thinking about this exact same question during the entire episode. i have come up w/ no good answer. there is no good reason to take a handgun into a firefight when you have a multitude of long gun options.

I thought that the "I'm going off of comm, call me on my cell phone" line was pretty funny last night. Especially since he stayed in the AO for some time before running off to be Mr. Super Hero.

I forgot about the shooting through the wall last night when I was posting this. I loved that! That did make me feel better.

I didn't remember there being a carbine in his ride when he grabbed his sniper rifle that episode. That blows my theory that he doesn't have a carbine. Now there is no excuse for this! Jack, pick up a rifle!!!

The plot has taken such a crazy turn that it's actually turned me off from the show. Stealing a stealth fighter? Shooting down airforce one? So what if terrorist get hold of the football...how would they know what to do with it. They should've just stuck to bombings or something of that nature. They went a little too far...even for TV reality. What's next? steal the space shuttle and take it to through a worm hole to the Dagoba system...c'mon now!!!
