The problem is that SCOTUS seems to rule very narrowly; whittling an extremely fine point on whatever case they take.
They even seem to take whatever case they have, and zero in on only one very esoteric piece of it.
They very rarely, at least in the past several decades, seem to make sweeping 'penumbric emanation' rulings.

To get them to take a case with two problems on which to rule is not going to happen.

Well, NJ already has pending cases in Federal Court, one on how Permits are issued, and another on magazine limits, and possibly another on ammo restrictions.
To my knowledge all of those are in pre-trial stages, and are not even decided, let alone advanced to Circuit Court appeals.
Which makes none of those very "eligible" as SCOTUS fodder.

SCOTUS has time to take about 800 cases per year, and well over 3000 are brought to the Court. So, they only take about one in four of all the cases brought. Which is why it looks so lean for "our" one cause. Which, naturally, is of huge importance to "us" but does not compromise that many court cases.

Which relates to how few "firearm" court cases are actually prosecuted. Prosecutors was winning cases, preferably with 99% or better chances of winning. Bringing a "gun" case invites endless appeals and challenges, and on varied and much-contested legislation. A prosecutors with designs on entering the Legislature does not improve those prospects by getting legislation over ruled as unconstitutional.

So, of course "we" want Action, and "we" Want It Now! But, the courts are slow and deliberate, and have much to hold their attention already.
