Not much to compare. For the little difference in diameter, there is a big difference in performance. Much heavier bullets in the '06, similar trajectory. More noise, too.
I have a .243 and think it is a nice all around small caliber....chucks, antelope, whitetails out to about 300. If I thought I'd be doing longer or bigger stuff, 25-06 would be the starting point and then with partition or bonded bullets.
