I'm a southpaw shooter and recently sold my 30-06. Don't ask me why. I shouldn't have done it.

But now I'm thinking of a LH in 243. I would go w/308, but the only rigs for left handed shooters are varmint rigs.

That leaves 243. It's for medium game (whitetail, boar). Is it an accurate round? Much different in recoil between the 243 and 30-06? What's the advantage of the 243 over the 06?

thanx

Very, VERY accurate, when loaded properly. Much less recoil. The advantages are lower recoil, flatter shooting, and smaller, lighter gun. Less recoil too. Easier to make accurate. I can't think of any bolt left handed .243s right now...but a ruger #1 is totally ambi i think. if you don't mind a simgle shot.

P.S. Shawnee? Where are you :D:D lol

You might try an H&R handi-rifle if you're a southpaw. A .243 is an accurate round, but other than the recoil..., I'd say the .30-06 is superior, for you can take a much wider diversity in game with it than the .243. There have been some reports of the .243 in the single shot handi-rifles having some "sticking" problems when opening the chamber after firing. BUT.., you can get the single shot rifles in .270, .308, .30-06, .450 Marlin & etc. I have one in .223, and it's a nail-driver. Instead of a .243, have you thought of a .25-06?

I dont know what your budget is but browning makes a 30-06 in left hand. I have a lefty in .338 and am very impressed with it.

Last weekend I attended a gun show in Tulsa. A guy had a stainless stalker and ammo for $480 in 338. I was tempted to buy it but, dang, that cartridge looked big!

I got the impression that the only time you use it is to hunt animals who hunt back. I didn't buy it.

It packs a punch, I use it to hunt bull nilgai in South Texas. I originally bought it for a moose hunt that never worked out.

it is big harmonic i had a ruger .338 win mag and it was punishing i bought it cause it was a good deal shot 10 rds through it and traded it off (mostly due to the extreme price of ammo)

you should have bought it at that price if there was much ammo with it cheapest i found it around here was $42 a box and that wasnt even good ammo

I don't get the "varmint rig" comment. Look at Remington, Browning, Savage especially. . . Lot of folks out there make lefty bolt guns. Not in all the same configurations as the righty guns, but there's still plenty out there.

You want another .30-06? Get one. A .308? Get one.

I am a lefty, I own a .243 Savage 110. Do a bit of snooping online. You can get what you want.

The Browning BLR is a fine rifle and, in the straight-gripped version, is "lefty-friendly" (except for the ejection), and available in .243, 7mm/08, and the .308. The right-sided ejection isn't that much of a deal anyway.

Good Luck !
